15 Georgia Tech Ph.D. Students Awarded Fellowship to Propel STEM Research

ARCS Foundation Atlanta awarded a total of $117,500 to 15 Ph.D. students who show exceptional promise of making a significant contribution to the worldwide advancement of science and technology. Eight first-year ARCS Scholars will join seven returning scholars who were recognized as outstanding doctoral students.

Funding Opportunity: ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award
|
ACM established the Doctoral Dissertation Award program to recognize and encourage superior research and writing by doctoral candidates in computer science and engineering. The award is presented each June at the ACM Awards Banquet and is accompanied by a prize of $20,000 plus travel expenses to the banquet. As of January 1, 2014 all winning dissertations are published exclusively in print and electronic formats as part of the ACM Books Series, which includes distribution through the ACM Digital Library. Honorable Mention(s) may also be awarded, with a prize of $10,000 shared among recipients.

| AAAI/ACM SIGAI Doctoral Dissertation Award
|
AAAI and ACM SIGAI established the Joint AAAI/ACM SIGAI Doctoral Dissertation Award to recognize and encourage superior research and writing by doctoral candidates in artificial intelligence. The award is presented annually at the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, and the winner is invited to present a talk at the conference.

Innovation in Building (IBUILD) Graduate Research Fellowship
|
The Innovation in Buildings (IBUILD) Graduate Research Fellowship, managed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory, aims to strengthen the pool of well-trained, diverse PhD scholars who are equipped for research-intensive building technologies careers in academia, industry, and the national labs.
Fellowships begin July-September, 2025 Application Closes on December 6, 2024 at 11:59 p.m., Eastern Time.

Fall master's and Ph.D. graduates are invited to apply to be the Georgia Tech student Commencement reflection speaker at this semester's Commencement exercises. A panel of faculty, administrators, and students will select a student for each institute ceremony to share an inspirational message at the respective ceremonies.
The deadline to apply is Monday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m.

retroTECH Game Day: Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64
|
Travel back in time to the 90's with the Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 and enjoy some friendly, kart-racing competition! Georgia Tech students are invited to the retroTECH Lab on the third floor of Crosland Tower Thursday, Oct. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. to try their hand at Super Mario Kart for the Super Nintendo and Mario Kart 64 for the Nintendo 64. And of course, no game session would be complete without pizza, which will be provided.

Join the LGBTQIA Resource Center for Queer Coffeehouse! Queer Coffeehouse is an informal community hour for students to share dialogue with each other, build community, and develop stronger connections. The next Queer Coffeehouse will be Thursday, Oct. 17 from 11-12 pm in the LGBTQIA Resource Center (Smithgall Bldg. Suite 140). This will be a general coffee hour with no set topic, so don't be afraid to join in and tell us what's on your mind! Both graduate and undergraduate students are welcome. | Wellness Opportunity: Free Flu Clinics
|
Fall is officially here, which means leaves are changing and temperatures are cooling. It also means an increased risk of spreading common viruses like the flu, which can be dangerous. Make sure you’re doing your part in protecting the hive at Georgia Tech by getting your free flu shot! Stamps Health Services is hosting free flu clinics on Oct. 17, Oct. 23, and Oct. 29 from 3-7 p.m. for students who have paid their student health fee.

The Veterans Resource Center will host its annual Veterans Day Luncheon on Monday, November 11, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Ferst Center lobby.
