Buildings Assessment Project

For committees of reserves with buildings, the Chair and/or Secretary of your committee should have recently received an email with information about the up-coming Buildings Assessment Project being carried by CT Management on behalf of DELWP. Contact your Chair or Secretary for an update.

Each participating committee will receive a tailored Building Condition Report with a schedule of suggested maintenance works, with cost estimates. This can be used by committees in planning for the future. The Building Condition Report may be useful in applying for funding grants.

New Solar Grants round! Applications close 24th June

For information about a new grant round for the DELWP Solar on Public Buildings Program, see the Solar on Public Buildings page of the DELWP website. Application close 24th June.

Buildings on Crown land in the Barwon South West, Grampians, Hume, Loddon Mallee and Port Phillip regions that are run by DELWP appointed volunteer committees of management are eligible for assessment to receive solar PV infrastructure under this program (note Gippsland committees not eligible for this round).

Sites that have already benefited from the program are also eligible to apply for a review of their system and potential for adding a battery or other upgrades.

Local Sports Infrastructure Fund

The 2022 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund is a state-wide Victorian Government program that provides a range of grant opportunities across five funding streams: Indoor Stadiums/Aquatic Facilities; Female Friendly Facilities; Community Sports Lighting; Community Facilities; Planning.

To be successful in gaining a grant through this fund, committees must work in partnership with local government (Shire/Council). Only Local Government Authorities (and Alpine Resort Boards) are eligible to apply directly to the Fund. For example, previous grant rounds have funded the Shire of Moorabool to undertake a major redevelopment of the Ballan Recreation Reserve, a committee of management managed reserve. The committee worked closely with the Shire to achieve this outcome.

A big day of planting for the Loch Sport Foreshore!

Loch Sport Foreshore
Loch Sport is a coastal tourist town situated on the Ninety Mile Beach and Lake Victoria in Central Gippsland.

The Loch Sport Foreshore Committee of Management recently had a very successful Foreshore Plantings day and the long list of people they wanted to thank includes:

Mark and Carol Kimpton who lent their trailor to pick up the plants from Melbourne; Colin Kent from the Garden Centre for placement of soil; Criaig Holland for the Fishing Association BBQ for the sausage sizzle; Foodworks; Peter Connell from the CFA; Local volunteers Terry and Judy, Steve and Rachel, Cheryl, Peter, Craig, Eileen, Marg and Steve; Gunai Kurnai Traditional Owners Mal and Dillon who travelled from Bairnsdale and helped in various ways, including expert hole digging!

Bullumwaal Mechanics Hall Stage Curtain Restoration
1897 was an interesting year in Boggy Creek in East Gippsland. The township changed its name to Bullumwaal, a “Monster Bizarre” community fundraiser was held and an amazing stage curtain appeared at the Bullumwaal Mechanics Hall.

With help from professional conservators Sabine Cotte and Sherryn Vardy, a DELWP Bushfire Recovery grant, Heritage Victoria, the East Gippsland Historical Society, DELWP staff member Tracey West and lots of volunteer time and effort, the curtain has recently been successfully restored.

Your reserve story for the website

The 1,000+ Crown land reserves managed by committees of management across Victoria are a diverse bunch - halls, recreation reserves, rail trails, nature reserves, and more! So many fascinating stories. Thanks to the Loch Sportians and Bullumwaal Hall for this edition (and a few others we've received that are ready to go for future editions).
