The CASA Connection

Message from the Executive Director

As we enter the summer months and approach the end of CASA’s fiscal year, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for our volunteer and donor communities who have been steadfast in their support through a most challenging time.  Your compassion and generosity helped to carry us through the uncertainty and anxiety that has shadowed us all.  We are profoundly grateful for your support and friendship!

It was a welcome change to gather at an in-person event last month, for the first time in over twelve months. We were fortunate to see many of you at our golf outing on May 24th at Prairie Landing, where we connected with old friends and made many new friends as well.  We were delighted to experience your energy and excitement as together we raised over $100,000 needed to support children in our community.

Thank you for your part in supporting CASA of DuPage County and we look forward to seeing you at our Annual CASA GALA in the Fall.

Warm regards,

Advocates Who Inspire

CASA DuPage is pleased to introduce you to
 Wynn Schmit
one of our extraordinary Advocates

Wynn was sworn in to the DuPage County Court System as a CASA Volunteer Advocate in March of 2017, and has navigated through many challenging situations. Wynn's cases have been demanding, but Wynn has always been there for the children.

Wynn’s current case involves a 14-year-old girl who is struggling.  When the public health crisis restricted regular visits, that did not stop Wynn from maintaining contact. They would FaceTime, share phone calls and when in-person visits were allowed, Wynn traveled to residential facilities, hospitals and foster homes without regard to the distance. They shared snacks, played games, danced, sang, painted their nails and shared tears during difficult times.

In December 18, 2020, the 14-year-old girl was relocated without her personal belongings.   After much confusion, Wynn was able to obtain her belongings from the previous foster home and 3 days before Christmas, Wynn drove to the foster home, picked up the minor’s things and delivered them to her new residence.  There was no visitation at the time, but Wynn drove over 170 miles round trip so girl could have her belongings for Christmas.

Thank you, Wynn, for being a CASA Volunteer Advocate who inspires us!

Golf Outing Raises $100,000!

Thank you sponsors, golfers, volunteers and supporters who helped us exceed our goal.
On Monday, May 24th, at Prairie Landing Golf Club friends came together for a beautiful day spent outdoors golfing, while raising much-needed funding for children who have been abused or neglected in DuPage County.

Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way to help make this event a success!

Hole in One with a CASA Golf Ball!

Charlie McKenna recently shared the story of how he landed a hole in one at Arrowhead Golf Club, the very next day after the CASA of DuPage County Golf Outing--while using the CASA of DuPage logoed ball!

In his weekly men's league, Charlie approached the tee box of the 5th hole on the West Course at Arrowhead. He took out his
7-iron and sent the ball about 145 yards to the green.  As he described it, "The ball went bounce, bounce, and into the hole!"

Only one day prior, he was telling the other membrs of his foursome how much he liked playing with the CASA golf balls that were given as a golfer gift at this year's outing.  He told us, the moral of the story is, "Play with the CASA ball, it will bring you luck!"  He said he had a lot of fun both at the outing and the next day with his league.  He looks forward to seeing everyone next year at the CASA golf outing event!  Charlie is also a member of the Wheaton Lions Club and is a regular supporter of CASA of DuPage County.

Thank you Charlie for sharing this amazing story!
