On Wednesday, June 18th, 2025, the Department of Campus Safety received a report of a robbery that occurred at approximately 1:34 p.m., on Mercer Street between Waverly Place and Washington Place, in Manhattan.
The victim, an NYU employee, was walking south on Mercer Street towards Washington Place when four unknown individuals approached the victim from behind and attempted to snatch the victim's wallet out of their back right pocket, ripping the victim's jeans. Once the suspects gained possession of the victim's wallet, one of the suspects struck the victim in the face and the suspects fled north on Mercer Street turning left on Waverly Place in the direction of the park.
The victim reported no physical injuries that required medical attention and was offered supportive resources. The robbery was reported to the NYPD, which is actively investigating the matter.
