Social Media/Outreach Internship Opportunity at UCF Counseling and Psychological Services
| |
Who: talented, responsible, and reliable Human Communication majors interested in developing mental health and well-being content
What: CAPS would like to provide an opportunity for a student to participate in a social media/outreach internship for the upcoming academic year (Summer/Fall 2021), to help us grow our outreach presence on our social media platforms. A Human Communication major would be a good fit for this role. This is an unpaid internship, with supervision provided via one of our CAPS clinicians. The scope of the work would involve:
- The creation of content, through Powtoon videos, flyers, and graphics, to communicate a message or advertise an event on our social media platforms and website
- Maintaining a frequent presence via postings, and coordination of our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube)
- Additional activities could involve outreach support to our campus community in planning and participating in our signature CAPS programming events (e.g., Healing Art Exhibition, Healthy Knights Expo, Suicide Awareness Day, PAWS-atively Stress-Free, etc.), as well as other events in collaboration with the UCF campus community
Time Commitment: Hours per week would depend on the student’s needs/availability, but would average between 5 – 15 hours per week. This work would all be virtual, as would supervision.
How to apply: submit a current CV and recommendation letter from your department to: karen.hofmann@ucf.edu
This could be a great opportunity for a student to gain some experience creating content for a mental health setting and we would welcome the skills and talents that a Human Communication student could bring to CAPS!

Application available for Allen J. Finkelson Scholarship
Pompano Beach, FL --- Steven Wolf, president of the Florida Chapter of the United States Harness Racing Writers Association (USHWA), has announced that the chapter is now accepting applications for its 2021 Allen J. Finkelson Scholarship Awards.
The scholarship fund was established in memory of Hall of Famer Allen J. Finkelson, the former Vice President of Public Relations at Pompano Park and longtime Chairman of the Board of the national USHWA organization.
“While our Florida Chapter was hesitant at first due to the pandemic that canceled our annual fundraising Florida Harness Racing Hall of Fame banquet,” said Steve Wolf, “we still felt we needed to continue our scholarship program, which is important for our young people to help them with the costs of tuition.”
Preference for these scholarship awards will be given to a student majoring in journalism, communications or veterinarian related studies.
This year there are two sponsors of the scholarships. They are Maggie LeClair and Jay Farrar and Kathleen and Thomas H. Hicks.
Applicants must be a resident of the state of Florida and currently accepted or enrolled in a fully accredited college or university in the United States. Criteria for selection include community service, academic achievement, and leadership.
A scholarship portion will go to a student in Biology (pre-vet) or a student in the Nicholson School of Communication (Journalism) at the University of Central Florida.
Applicants must have demonstrated scholastic ability with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and show evidence of community service and leadership through certificates, awards and/or letters of commendation.
Fully completed applications must be postmarked no later than July 1, 2021, for consideration of an August 2021 award. Recipients may reapply annually for a maximum of four years.
Applications should be submitted/addressed to the Florida Chapter USHWA, Scholarship Committee, 3508 Sahara Springs Blvd., Pompano Beach, FL 33069.
For more information or to receive an application on the internet, visit http://www.ushwa-florida.com/ or contact via e-mail to Thomas H. Hicks at renparlc@gate.net or Steven Wolf at stevenwolf1956@gmail.com.
