Our times are in God’s hands. The best part of being a pastor is loving the people whom we serve over the span of generations. Sunday, I get to baptize the grandson of a family who served with us in Cedar Park. I knew Sam’s dad when he was Sam’s age. Sam’s grandparents are wonderful friends who joined our church near Austin some thirty years ago. Now we get to love Sam, his sisters, and their parents. God is so good!
No act of kindness is ever wasted. Remember the Shunammite woman and her husband made a space in their hearts and home for the holy man Elisha who passed their way. Later, Elisha offered to repay with some kindness. She asked nothing, but Elisha discovered she had no children. So he told her she would have a son. Later the boy died, but Elisha restored him to life.
Elisha’s care for this family continued. During the famine, he sent her away to a place of better provision for seven years. When she returned, she went to the king to ask for the restoration of her property. At that very instant, Gehazi, Elisha’s servant was telling her story to the king. Coincidence? No. The king immediately granted her request.
We live our lives on GST: God’s Standard Time. As we care for each other, we see God’s blessing extend to generations. It is our privilege to see God care for his people. The God who brought the woman’s son back to life, protected her in a foreign land, and provided for her land to be restored. God is in the details. Our times are in his hands. And God is so good!
