Hebrews 7:25
Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
New International Version (NIV)
A man arrived at a nice restaurant under dressed.  The maître d' insisted that he put on a tie to dine there.  The man went to his car and searched for a tie, to no avail.  Then he saw them.  His jumper cables.  He tied them around his neck and walked back in, hoping this would work.  The man at the door rolled his eyes and said, “Okay you can come in, but don’t you start anything!”  I know.  Dad joke.  Bad joke.

I resonate with the idea, though, because I am prone to start things.  In my lifetime I have started many things.  How about you?  The real question is, what have we finished lately?  Remember Paul said that God who began a good work in the church at Philippi would bring it to completion.  The writer of Hebrews captures the same thought when he says Jesus is able to save forever (“to the uttermost”) those who draw near to God through him.

After Jesus justifies us, he continues his work of sanctifying us.  Exactly what is he doing, we may wonder.  He is praying.  Jesus, our great Advocate literally lives to intercede for us.  Without question he will finish what he has begun in us.  My friend Roger Duck’s words echoed in my ears as I memorized scripture today, “For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”  So start something good for God today and finish strongly with him.  God is with you and for you!  Jesus is praying for you right now.

Pray with me:
Father, thank you for finishing what you start in us.  Start a new work in our lives today.  Cause us to will and to act in order to fulfill your purpose because we know it is good.  Thank you for Jesus, our great High Priest who intercedes for us in the holiest place of all, your presence.  Fill us to overflowing with your Spirit today so that we may live for your glory alone.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
