Micah 6:6-8
With what shall I come before the Lord
and bow down before the exalted God?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
    with calves a year old?
Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,
with ten thousand rivers of olive oil?
Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.

New International Version (NIV)
Some things are unforgettable!  Certain dates on the calendar stand out in our minds.  On October 12, 1969 my family boarded a plane to Germany for the first time at McGuire AFB in New Jersey.  This year will be the fiftieth anniversary of a trip that changed our lives.  While there Christ found me and called me into relationship with himself at Faith Baptist Church near Kaiserslautern.

Today is another important date.  Twenty-one years ago I preached my inaugural sermon at Tallowood.  We left a church we loved to come to a church which has loved us and welcomed us.  We are grateful.

Some scripture passages are unforgettable!  When I first memorized the books of the Bible as a seven year old at Faith Baptist, I came to this portion of the prophets and confidently mispronounced them, “Jon-a, Mic-a.”  Years later I would fall in love with this verse as I heard God speak to me clearly.  What does God want from us?  Is there any offering great enough?  God wants  three things from his people:  to do justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God.  This verse is enough to keep us focused for a lifetime.  Never forget it.  These words will get you home.
Pray with me:
Father, thank you for unforgettable days and unforgettable churches.  Thank you for allowing us the privilege of relationship with you.  Now that we know what you want:  for us to act justly, love mercy and walk in humility, empower us to do these things.  Today.  We pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download
the app at readscripture.org.  Read through the Bible with us in 2019!
Joyfully,
Duane
