Why did God save us?
Why did God save us?
February 24, 2017
Titus 3:4-6
But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,
New International Version (NIV)
Henry Blackaby wrote, “We love to talk about grace, but mercy always comes first in sequence.”   Remember, mercy is God’s forbearance not giving us what we deserve, and grace is God’s unmerited favor giving us what we don’t deserve.
In his letter to Titus, a young pastor on the island of Crete, Paul clarified the gospel.  The good news is that in Christ the kindness and love of God appeared and became visible, audible and tangible.  Why did God save us?  Was it because of good things we had done?  No.  He saved us because of his mercy.
How does he do it?  God saves us by washing us in rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.  How did we receive the Holy Spirit?  He was poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ who is our Savior.   Wayne Watson sang, “God has always been most faithful, and so much more than kind . . .”  Let his kindness and mercy lead us to repentance and obedience so that we may experience the fullness of his joy today!
Pray with me:
God our Savior, thank you for love and kindness made visible in Jesus.  Thank you for rebirth and renewal through the Holy Spirit.  We receive your mercy and thank you for not giving us the judgment we deserve.  We relish your grace through which we receive the life we never deserved.  Help us to live what we believe in this new day.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones
or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/
As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
Joyfully,
