Romans 12:11-13
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.  Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.  Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
New International Version (NIV)
I saw a 2 liter bottle of Dr. Pepper in the refrigerator.   It is a rare indulgence for me.  I like it best over ice cream.  Confession is good for the soul.  When I pulled it out and turned the lid, I heard the dreaded sound of . . . silence.  "When did we get this Dr. Pepper?" I asked in disappointment.    "Spark weekend," came the reply.  We opened it months ago.  The fizz is gone.

It can happen to our faith, too.  You remember your joy and zeal when you first found and followed the Lord?  "Never be lacking in zeal."  Paul says, "Don't lose your fizz!"  Unfortunately our spiritual fizz will fizzle if we do not feed it.  How do we know we have it?    We are joyful in our hope, patient in our affliction and faithful in our prayer.

God's grace is best when shared with others.  If we give God's love away, we will find that we never run out.  But be wary:  if you try to keep God's love to yourself, it may go bad like day old manna, like dated Dr. Pepper.   So whatever God gives you today, be sure to share it with others.  Not only will they be blessed, but so will you.

 Pray with me:
Father, our eyes are dry.  Our faith is old.  Our hearts are hard.  Our prayers are cold.  We know how we ought to be.  Alive to you and dead to ourselves.  Oh what can be done for an old heart like mine?  Soften it up with oil and wine.  The oil is you, your Spirit of love.  Please wash me anew in the wine of your blood.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
