The International Student Hub (I-Hub) is your central resource for everything related to being an international student at New York University. We are a collaboration between the Office of Global Services (OGS) and the Center for Student Life (CSL) dedicated to support your success and well-being at NYU. 

Most of your questions related to academics would be directed to your hosting academic department. Your immigration questions should be directed to IIE.

To contact IIE for any and all of your immigration-based matters: You can find all the information about your Fulbright Program at Fulbright Online. The Resources section has the contact information (email and phone) for your IIE advisor. It also lists the emergency line if a serious emergency arises outside of business hours. The website should be your go-to for all IIE Fulbright-related questions/documents/policies, etc.

This message is the fifth of an email series for new international students (catch up on previous emails if you missed any). They contain very important immigration information and resources to help you acclimate to NYU and to the US.

Here we’ve compiled some basic guidelines to help you understand healthcare in the US.

Healthcare in the US can be confusing. But we are here to help! Review our information on understanding healthcare in the US to learn the most common types of services and terms found in a typical insurance plan. NYU has various mental health and well-being resources to support you during your studies. Also be sure to watch our recorded webinar, Wellbeing at NYU 101, for further tips and information.

At NYU your health and wellbeing come first. Whether it's appointments at the Student Health Center in Manhattan or Brooklyn, or calls to the 24/7 Wellness Exchange hotline, NYU is committed to providing you access to affordable, quality medical and mental health care anytime you need it. During your time at NYU, you should consider the Student Health Center to be your one-stop shop for all your health concerns. 

Every international student studying at NYU is required to have health insurance. You are automatically enrolled in and billed for the NYU-sponsored Comprehensive Insurance Plan each semester. You have the following options regarding your health insurance for the 2024-2025 academic year:

NYU no longer accepts the Essential Plan to waive the NYU Sponsored Health Insurance Plan, as it does not meet all of the required criteria to waive.

If you have any questions, please contact Student Health Insurance at health.insurance@nyu.edu or (212) 443-1020. 

All NYU students must complete mandatory health requirements and prove they have received certain vaccinations. Failure to comply with these requirements within 45 days of the start of the semester will lead to de-enrollment from classes and prohibition from entering all NYU facilities.

Not all medicines that are available in other countries are available in the United States. Pharmacies in the U.S. cannot accept international prescriptions, so you will need to see a provider when you arrive to get new prescriptions. Please bring a note from your current provider stating the condition that you have and the medications and dosages that you take.

If you take medications for a chronic condition, we recommend that you bring a 1-3 month supply with you. Any medications that you bring should be left in their original containers and be clearly labeled. Please do not ship any medications; they may be held in customs and/or confiscated.

Pre-Orientation is a series of webinars designed to give incoming international students and their families an opportunity to become familiar with the processes and procedures associated with being a student at NYU.
