BIS has been working with the Counseling Department on a combined bachelor's/master's bridge program for students entering OU's Counseling program. The proposal is making its way through approvals now with the goal of beginning fall '24. More info to come!
Each semester, BIS organizes a "Graduation Celebration" event to recognize the accomplishments of their graduates. April 15, winter and summer graduates joined us along with their family and friends to celebrate this milestone.

First Year Advising Center

The First Year Advising Center has partnered with Undergraduate Admissions to create a new program for admitted FTIACs – Orientation Sneak Peek. The event provides new students and their parent/family members a “sneak peek” to their upcoming orientation experience by sharing the inside scoop on OU majors and first year courses. In-person and virtual sessions were planned for April and May with nearly 500 participants scheduled to attend. Topics included recommended courses for the first year, placement testing, college credit, general education and resources for exploring students.

School of Education and Human Services

On Friday March 17th, SEHS Advising partnered with faculty in the school of education and human services to host a future teachers conference welcoming High School Students in future educator programs to campus. About 300 juniors and seniors attended!
Advancing Academic Advising

PAC Retreat

OU Advising came together as an advising community on May 18 for the annual PAC Retreat. This year's theme centered on leadership, career development and advising best practices with featured presentations Dr. Michelle Hammond from the School of Business Administration, Dr. Andrea Bittinger from the School of Nursing and Dr. Sarah Hosch from Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. Throughout the day, OU Advising collaborated on upcoming initiatives and committees as well as enjoyed connecting with colleagues across campus. As part of the lead-up to the event, colleagues submitted words to describe each other and the committee put those words together into the word cloud below to show who OU Advising is.
Thank you to the PAC Retreat Committee for all your hard work planning such a well-attended event!

School of Education and Human Services

Roberta Rea, Melanie Chamberlain and Jen Bellini presented "Embracing your Lazy Genius: advising through transitions" at the 2023 NACADA Region V conference in Windsor.

Melanie Chamberlain (formerly SEHS, currently OUWB) was recognized as the 2023 OU Outstanding Academic Adviser of the Year. The Outstanding Professional Academic Advising Award is given annually to recognize an adviser for extraordinary work in building mentoring relationships, developing strong leadership skills, contributing to the creation of new programs and achieving high student satisfaction. Nominations are submitted by students and reviewed by a committee of campus community members. Congratulations, Melanie!
