OU Libraries' Finals Frenzy Week: Coffee, Puppies, & More!
It is a stressful time of year and it is important to keep yourself healthy. OU Libraries are here to help by hosting a series of relaxation events leading up to final exams from Monday, December 10 - Wednesday, December 12. No registration required!

Monday, December 10

  • Chair Massages (10:00 - 4:00pm; Popular Reading Area behind the cafe) Relax as you get a short massage from a licensed massage therapist!
  • Movie Night (4:00 - 6:30pm; KL Room 242) - Enjoy some popcorn as you watch Incredibles 2!

Tuesday, December 11

  • Pause for Puppies (12:00 - 3:00pm; Popular Reading Area) - Take a much deserved study break to pet some puppies!

Wednesday, December 12 
  • Henna Tattoes (10:00 - 11:00am; Popular Reading Area) - Get a beautifully designed henna tattoo while you take a moment to relax.
  • Mini-Mindfulness Sessions (11:00am - 12:30pm; KL Room 224) - Join our own Dr. Thomas Ferrari to learn basic mindfulness and mediation techniques in 15-minute, mini-mindfulness sessions. You are welcome to drop-in at any point during this time!
  • Knitting (12:00 - 2:00pm in the Popular Reading Area) - Learn knitting basics from our librarian experts; supplies will be provided!
Free Coffee will also be available in the Kresge Library Lobby on the nights of Friday, December 7 through Tuesday, December 11.

Hours During Holiday Break

Kresge Library, including all Medical Library spaces, will have the following hours in December leading to and during the holiday break:
  • Monday, December 17: open midnight - 6:00pm
  • Tuesday, December 18 - Friday, December 21: open 7:30am - 6:00pm
  • Saturday, December 22 - Tuesday, January 1, 2019: CLOSED
  • Wednesday, January 2, 2019: opens at 7:30am, 24/7 hours resume

Information Mastery Skills: Searching & Organizing the Literature Recap

As your Embark projects progress throughout your four years at OUWB or as you participate in other research projects, you're going to be searching, synthesizing, and organizing the literature. Finding too many or too few results? Not sure how to efficiently store the literature you find? For students in any class, here are some refresher quick guides and other resources to help you!
Searching
  • PubMed Quick Guide [PDF] - reviews basic search techniques and tricks for using PubMed.
  • Database Comparison Sheet [PDF] - summarizes and compares the major literature databases provided by OU Libraries including PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, ERIC, and PsycINFO.
  • Literature Searching Google Site - website compiling tutorials, handouts, and practice search exercises for literature searching in various databases.  
Organizing
  • MyNCBI Quick Guide [PDF]- reviews the advantages of setting up a free MyNCBI account within the PubMed interface including how to save searches, set-up email alerts, and store citations to PubMed articles.
  • Mendeley Quick Guide [PDF] - step-by-step instructions with screenshots on how to register and start using Mendeley to store and organize literature.

Collection Spotlight: Books Highlighed at the AAMC Conference
Looking for reading material for over the holiday break? The recent Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) conference included talks by several authors, writing on a variety of topics. The Medical Library has purchased a copy of each of the books for our collection!
