On Monday, September 9, at 12:15 p.m., the Department of Campus Safety was notified by NYPD of a report of an aggravated assault that occurred at approximately 6:50 a.m., in Washington Square Park in Manhattan.
The complainant, male-presenting individual not affiliated with NYU, reported that they were approached by the suspect who asked to borrow the complainant's phone. The suspect made a phone call, then refused to return the phone. A physical altercation ensued between the two individuals, during which time the suspect slashed the victim with an unidentified object. The suspect reportedly fled with another unidentified female-presenting individual.
The complainant suffered lacerations to the left side of their face and back of their head and was treated on the scene by EMS.
According to the complainant, the suspect is unknown to them.
Description of Suspect: The suspect was described as in their 20s, male-presenting, and dark complexioned, wearing all black clothing, as well as a grey Yankees baseball hat and white sneakers. The suspect appeared to be between 5'7" and 5'10".
