Inviting Facilitators for Undergraduate Researchers Workshop Series spring 2023

(USS) Undergraduate Summer Scholarship Program 2023 Call for Applications
Feb 24, 2023, Student Application Deadline USS Program 2023 Guidelines
A total of 105 USS Research Fellowships are available for summer 2023.  Selected students must carry out the mentored research project during Summer Term dates (May 16 - Aug 4, 2023).

The individual student is responsible for finding an eligible mentor. The student and the faculty member(s) who agrees to mentor the project) will collaborate to design the independent research project and to write the USS proposal. The student is responsible for submitting a completed USS application (via email) to the department chair or program director of the student's USS mentor by the Feb 24, 2023 deadline.

General Oversight and Administration of USS Program. While the Office of Research for Undergraduates (ORU) facilitates the USS program, administrative units that choose to participate, agree to undertake the administrative burden required of them by the USS program. 

Responsibility for a successful program will rest with the student scholar, the mentor(s) and the primary mentor's unit. All participants are responsible for adhering to Miami University policies covering COVID-19. Department chairs and program directors will determine the review process for USS applications. Units are responsible for collecting applications, reviewing, and approving the mentored independent study research projects, submitting each eligible USS application to the ORU Coordinator, notifying the ORU Coordinator the names of student/mentor(s) selected for the fellowship, ensuring the educational value of the student experience, monitoring the student/mentor(s) collaboration, tracking and reporting expenditures from funds provided by the Undergraduate Summer Scholar Supplement funding. 
USS 2023 Program Update - Program Funding Supplements Announcement
One of Miami Teacher Scholars Program Initiatives is the Undergraduate Summer Scholar (USS) Supplements is providing additional funding that will be available in FY23, 24, and 25. 

* The USS student fellowship will be increased by a 600$ supplement bringing the amount to $3,200. Student recipients will report on the USS experience through mechanisms such as presentations within the annual Undergraduate Research Forum or similar venue. 

* Faculty project mentor(s) may check a box on the USS application Page 1 to request up to $600 for a combination of supply funding and faculty professional development. Faculty will include written budget justification and a line-item budget as Page 5 of the USS application pdf submission. Note: This is separate from the budget justification for 200$ that has been available for student projects through the Office of Research for Undergraduates.
Miami's Western Center invites USS applicants to request consideration for one of five Western Center Social Impact and Justice Research USS fellowships. 
These USS applications must address how the research engages with issues of social impact and/or social justice, in the project description. Eligible research explores topics related, but not limited, to equity, diversity, ethics, socio-cultural change, environmentalism, community engagement, identity, inclusion/exclusion, dialogue, and/or utilizes participatory research methodologies such as action research and citizen science. These research projects can be proposed by students from any major or disciplinary perspective/s. Applicant will mark check a box on the USS application Page 1 to request consideration.

(URA) Undergraduate Research Program 2023 Call for Applications

Miami University Senate sponsors the URA Program to provide Miami Undergraduates a faculty-mentored experience in developing grant applications.These partnerships encourage discovery, creative activity and/or novel, inquiry-based activity.  While students can propose projects that augment or are related to an existing faculty project, proposals must be developed by student applicant(s), under the supervision of and with sponsorship of a faculty member.
Project Categories:  1) Individual or 2) Team projects must be endorsed by a faculty sponsor (tenured, tenure-track, TCPL (Teaching, Clinical Professors and Lecturers) faculty are eligible to serve as sponsors) who certifies that the project is worth doing, has educational value to the student(s) and can be accomplished in the proposed time frame. Graduate students may also be part of the mentoring team along with the faculty sponsor.
The aim and result of specific projects supported by the program may be modest as long as the work can reasonably be interpreted as research or a creative endeavor.  Applications may be made for support of a research project that is also being conducted for academic credit. The maximum award is $1,000 pending available funds with typical awards range from $150 to $500. The purpose of these funds is to foster and support research and creative activity from all disciplines and to provide students with a hands-on opportunity to engage in the research process /creative activity from conception to proposal to results.

A special call for interdisciplinary proposals that focus on neurodegenerative care, an emphasis of the Leaving It Better Initiative supported by the (Live Like Lou Foundation).

Teams of 3-4 students are invited to collaborate with two or more faculty members from different disciplines to develop and address research questions that have a bearing on neurodegenerative care. Examples of disciplines include [but are not restricted to] Engineering, Gerontology, Kinesiology, Nursing, Nutrition, Neuroscience, Family Studies, Social Work, Speech Pathology

UR 2023 Forum Undergraduate Research Forum Returns to In-Person
Save the date Wed April 19, 2023  
The 29th Annual Undergraduate Research Forum builds on a rich tradition of showcasing scholarly and creative works conducted by our undergraduate students under the guidance of dedicated mentors. The all day event is open to the public and will be held on the Oxford Ohio campus.
Presentation Registration be open online Feb 1 - March 7, 2023 on the ORU website www.miamioh.edu
Miami undergraduates students (regardless of major, year in school, or research experience) from all colleges and schools are encouraged to register to share insight about your research journey.

The Miami University Libraries Award for Undergraduate Research Excellence (LAURE) is an annual award dedicated to celebrating research conducted by undergraduates using library resources.  
All undergraduate students enrolled at Miami University are eligible. We welcome a wide range of submission types. A project may be in any format or medium and may include (but is not limited to: Research papers, Lab/clinical research investigation, Photography, film, or video Product or prototype development Artwork Architectural project or model Website creation Mapping or GIS project Database development Field trip or site exploration).
