Placemaking Competition: Envision PSU as a vibrant hub for the whole city |
Picture this: a PSU campus that is safer, more culturally vibrant and creatively engaged, with an energy that reaches out into the heart of Portland.
PSU President Ann Cudd announced a new design competition to enhance our campus while revitalizing the heart of Portland. In the Place Matters Design Competition, design teams are challenged to create inspired plans and strategies that achieve the initiative’s mission: “To transform Portland State’s public spaces into vibrant people-centered places and strengthen PSU’s place in the city of Portland”. Creative designers and big thinkers are encouraged to form teams and enter!

The Associated Students of PSU (ASPSU) announces two upcoming events for students:

ASPSU Townhall with Campus Public Safety & University Public Safety Oversight Committee: Join the ASPSU Student Advocacy Committee for their town hall hosting representatives from Campus Public Safety and the University Public Safety Oversight Committee (UPSOC) on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 3 - 5 p.m., as they discuss student safety on campus.

Winter Fest event - ASPSU Elections Informational: Do you want to be more involved on campus? Do you want to make a change? Come join the ASPSU Elections Committee for a Winter Fest event on Feb. 16, 2 - 4 p.m., to learn how to run for ASPSU! Elected positions within ASPSU include President/Vice President, Senator, and Student Fee Committee member.

PSU announces undergraduate honor rolls for 2023 fall term |
More than 3,000 students made the honor roll in the 2023 Fall term:
President’s List: Undergraduate students with a cumulative PSU GPA of 3.5 or better, who have a carrying load of 12 hours or more (excluding AU and P/NP hour) and have a term GPA of 4.0.
Dean’s List: Undergraduate students with a cumulative PSU GPA of 3.5 or better, who have a carrying load of 12 hours or more (excluding AU and P/NP hours) and have a term GPA of 3.75 - 3.99.
Part-time students may qualify for the President's List and Dean's List under certain conditions.

Listening sessions for Latinx students |
PSU's Latinx students are invited to Listening Sessions on Monday, Feb. 5 (remote) and on Tuesday, Feb. 6 (in person). These sessions are focused on gaining a better understanding of the physical and emotional well-being of Latinx students, access to care, and providing culturally relevant care in the Center for Student Health & Counseling (SHAC). This event is hosted by SHAC's Dr. Aoi Nathalia Mizushima in partnership with a variety of departments across campus.

PSU shines at the Portland Winter Light Festival |
When the sun goes down, set out on an adventure in downtown Portland at the Portland Winter Light Festival, continuing through Saturday, Feb. 10. Make the Simon Benson House your first stop, to view a light projection called Thee Octipie of Love. Then hop on the streetcar for free with your PSU ID (it runs until 11:30 p.m. on festival nights) and head to the heart of downtown for interactive light displays or performances.

Basketball Shooting Challenge: Let's test your range in the 3-Point shooting challenge on Monday, Feb. 12 from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. Each participant will take 5 shots from 3 locations around the 3-point line for a chance to win an IM champ t-shirt. Free for Campus Rec members; $7 for non-members.

Table Tennis Singles Tournament: This one-day tournament will start with a few pool play games and finish with a single-elimination tournament to crown a champion. Join us on Tuesday, 2/13 from 4-7 p.m on Court 2 and the MAC Court. Free for Campus Rec members; $7 for non-members.

Learn about sexual health with SHAC |
The Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) Health Promotion's 7th annual sex education event: Sex & Chocolate is happening on Thursday, Feb. 8 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Zoom. This event is an opportunity for folks to anonymously learn about sexual health, consent, and relationships from experienced panelists. Register to submit questions and get access to the Zoom link.

Get hands-on experience with writing abstracts |
The Center for Internship, Mentoring, and Research is hosting a workshop to help students craft abstracts for conferences, symposiums, and scholarly publications. Whether you're submitting your first abstract or looking to polish your skills, this workshop will provide valuable insights and hands-on experience. The workshop is this Friday, Feb. 9, from 3 - 4:30 p.m. Students can attend virtually or in person (location tbd). Email CIMR@pdx.edu with questions.

Enjoy a musical experience with Shakespeare’s text |
PSU School of Music Professor Darrell Grant curates a musical encounter with the Sonnets of William Shakespeare, featuring SOMT faculty and student composers and performers transporting 400-year-old language into modern contexts and styles. Come enjoy this musical encounter with Shakespeare’s written text on Thursday, Feb. 8 at noon in the Lincoln Recital Hall. This event is also part of the Shakespeare's First Folio project happening in Portland throughout this year.

Portland Ballet auditions rescheduled, fees waived |
Audition for The Portland Ballet's 2023/2024 Summer Intensive and Second Semester Curriculum/Career Track programs! Due to the winter storm, auditions will now be held Feb. 19 at TPB's studio. Auditions are at noon and there is NO registration fee. The audition is for new students, ages 11-22. Registration forms should be completed at the time of the audition and digital photos will be taken during registration.

PSU Eats teams up with Basic Needs Hub |
The Basic Needs Hub and PSU Eats are working together to address food insecurity while also reducing waste. Once an on-campus event concludes, catering staff collects certain leftover foods that would otherwise be thrown out and redirects them to the Hub, which supports students needing food assistance.
