Numbers 36:10-12
So Zelophehad’s daughters did as the Lord commanded Moses.  Zelophehad’s daughters—Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milkah and Noah—married their cousins on their father’s side.  They married within the clans of the descendants of Manasseh son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in their father’s tribe and clan.
New International Version (NIV)
My friend Ray Galvin once told me that I needed a daughter.  By God’s providence we now have one.  She has certainly changed the way I view the world.  I am confident Melanie and I would never have cared for cattle were it not for Casey.  We are grateful.

No one cares more about women than the God of the Bible.  In the beginning women were created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27).   When Hagar was cast out into the desert God found her (Genesis 16:7).

Imagine in the ancient world where women were so often devalued and treated as chattel that Moses responded to the daughters of Zelophehad who risked losing their inheritance because they were women.  Moses made provision for them within God’s plan so that they would not lose their land which allowed them to survive.  If God cares about the inheritance rights of four sisters, how much more does he care about our sisters throughout the world?

Especially in the New Testament we see the restoration of relationships between men and women in Christ.  Women were last at the cross and first at the empty tomb.  At Pentecost God fulfilled Joel’s prophecy that sons and daughters would prophesy (Acts 2:17).  Paul, raised a Pharisee, would come to believe, “There is no Jew or Greek, slave or free, male and female, since you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28).

Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, by your Holy Spirit remind us that in Christ Jesus all we lost in the fall is restored.  By your grace we see the love that you have lavished on us:  that we should be called the children of God.  Help us to live up to our new standing, in Christ.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
