Hebrews 13:14
For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.
New International Version (NIV)
“Where is home?”  I sometimes catch people off-guard when I ask. Most people answer by telling tell me where they live or where they were born.

The writer of Hebrews has told us about Abraham who left the city of Ur and lived in tents waiting for the promise of a city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God (Hebrews 11:9-10).  Someday the city of heaven will come down to earth (Revelation 21:1-2).  God will dwell with us and wipe every tear from our eyes.

We live in a city of multiple millions.  Along my journey, I have travelled to great cities like New York and Rio de Janeiro.  No matter where we live, though, our dwelling places are temporary.  The cities of our world are not enduring.  Like Abraham, “this world is not our home.  We are just passing through.”

While we wait for the perfect, permanent city we praise God, we share with others, we follow our leaders who follow the Leader, and we pray for each other (13:15-19).  And if anyone asks,”Where is home?” We say, “Heaven.” Are you homesick, too?

Pray with me:
Father, we are pilgrims on a journey.  Help us never to forget our home.  Let us live as those whose citizenship is in heaven.  Prepare all of your children for the place you are preparing for us.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen!
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
