2 Corinthians 12:7-10
or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.  Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.  But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.  That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
New International Version (NIV)
What is your thorn in the flesh?  Have you asked God to take it away?  Has he?  Some of the greatest leaders in history overcame great personal challenges on their way to success.

The Apostle Paul tells us he had a thorn which was given to keep him from becoming conceited.  It came from Satan.  Paul knew God was greater still so he asked him three times to remove the thorn.  Each time God answered, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

We do not know what Paul’s thorn was and in a way I am glad.  It might have been his eyesight or malaria.  Whatever it was, God’s grace was sufficient.  We may have different thorns in different seasons of our lives.  No matter.  God’s grace is sufficient whatever the thorn, whatever the season.  Today, like the Apostle Paul, we may boast  and delight in weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions and in difficulties.  When we are weak we are strong.
Pray with me:
Father, we find all of our strength in you today.  You know our thorns.  We cannot remove them so we ask you to do so.  But even if you don’t we trust in your all-sufficient grace.  Give us your grace and love.  These are and always will be enough for us.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
