TEAM GREEN SPOTLIGHT

It has been over four years since Nashville was devastated by the May 2010 flooding, and we've learned a lot during that time. First and foremost, the conditions of our neighborhood creeks and streams play a significant role in the safety of our neighbors. During heavy rains, stormwater from all over the city rushes to these tributaries, causing flooding in the area. Making sure that our local creeks and streams are clear of debris helps to minimize the impact of heavy rains.

We also learned that the debris doesn't move itself. After all this time, there are still local waterways that were never cleaned up after the 2010 flooding, and therefore continue to cause problems. That's where Hands On Nashville's Waterway Cleanup & Restoration Program comes to the rescue. Help HON and Team Green Adventures with our HON Mill Creek Cleanup on Saturday, August 16th. Spend half a day with friends and fellow adventure seekers as we restore a section of Mill Creek floodplain!

Hiwassee River Kayaking Weekend
August 9-10th
Join Team Green Adventures on a 5.5-mile whitewater kayak trip down the scenic Hiwassee River! This overnight adventure will give you the chance to experience some of the best beginner whitewater in Tennessee, as we get up close and personal with the rapids in sit-on-top kayaks or inflatable funyaks!


Walk 100 Miles with the Mayor
Now through August 30th
Nashville Mayor Karl Dean is inviting all Nashvillians to join him in walking 100 miles during the summer of 2014. This city-wide health challenge is designed to encourage people of all ages and fitness levels to get regular physical activity – walking is a free and easy way to do that! Participating in the challenge is simple. Start by creating a profile, join the Team Green Adventures group, and then log your physical activity! Check out the schedule of Mayor-led walks coming up!
