Dear ILR Community,
Miami University has just announced proactive measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. These measures will affect ILR and our spring semester programming. The following message was received late this afternoon from President Crawford:
“Miami University currently has no confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19). However, in light of the Governor’s announcement today and the advice of the Ohio Department of Health to limit large gatherings, the University is taking a number of immediate actions to protect the health and safety of our community, which is our first priority. We recognize these measures may cause disruption to many but the risk of not acting outweighs the disruption.
One of the most effective measures to prevent the spread of the virus is to avoid large group interactions. Beginning tomorrow, March 11, 2020, Miami University’s U.S. campuses are suspending all face-to-face instruction in lectures, discussion sections, seminars and other similar classroom settings.”
This action is expected to last until at least mid-April. It will affect all ILR programming, necessitating the unfortunate and unprecedented postponement or cancellation of our spring semester. As this action affects every instructor, lecturer, and student, it will create a significant logistical challenge that will take some time to sort out. For that reason, we ask for your patience and calmness while we work out our options and next steps. Once those options are defined, we will disseminate that information via email.
I know what a disappointment this news brings, but your health and well-being must be our highest priority. Please continue to monitor your email for further instructions and information.
Most sincerely,
Judy Macke
