Online, mail, and in-person registration

At 9:00 a.m. (Oxford, OH time) today, our website was updated with a live link to online registration and our office began processing mailed registrations in the order they were received. While we continue to have three easy ways to register—online, mail, or in person, online is your quickest option and immediately reserves your seat in class. Online registration—accessed from the ILR website or the "Register Now" link below—takes only minutes and requires no passwords. Once you experience the ease of registering online, you'll understand the appeal. It's the most efficient means of registering, both for you and the ILR office.
If you have been checking our website regularly and don't now see the current content, you may need to clear your browser's cache to refresh your browser.

Your questions answered

Q. Why Webex and not Zoom?
A. When ILR (and most of the world) pivoted to virtual learning in 2020, Miami University had only the Webex license, so that's where we invested our time and training. Webex and Zoom are very similar. Once you've connected to one, you'll barely notice the differences between the other. If you've never attended a Webex event, however, we highly recommend you invest an hour of your time by signing up for ILR's free Webex Introductory Session for Students. Two online sessions will be offered this month, Tuesday, March 21, 11 am, or Thursday, March 23, 1 pm. Sign up now

Q. I see classes that I wish were offered in a different location or format. Can they be repeated in my desired location/format in the future?
A. Ultimately, where and how to teach is the decision of the instructor. Because all instructors are volunteers, we make every effort to accommodate their wishes. If you see a class you would like to be repeated elsewhere, note that request in your end-of-semester survey.

Q. How can I review the course descriptions if I don't have a catalog?
A. If you don't have a printed catalog or can't open this digital version, go to the ILR website. The link to "Classes and Events" is on our homepage.

Q. Why do I need to fill out a MU Medical Form if I am only attending virtually?
A. Unfortunately, people can experience medical emergencies during virtual classes. Miami requires a completed form each academic year. If you provided the form last semester, you're good to go this spring.

Q. Do I need to request a parking permit?
A. Parking permits are required for classes on the Oxford campus only. After you have registered, your confirmation email will contain the link to register your vehicle for the electronic permit. Paper permits are no longer issued.

Don't get lost
Oh, the errors we see. If you make an error entering your personal information during registration, that information overwrites what we have on file in our database. Prior to mailing the catalog, we discovered many transposed addresses, zip codes, and incorrect email addressesa direct result of the information provided to us through registration. While some errors jump out at us, others go undetected and ensure we'll lose you. And we certainly don't want to lose you. Please be extra diligent with your digits when registering.
In addition, registration emails will come your way with the option to Opt Out of future emails. Please don't Opt Out if you plan to register in the future. Opting out will prevent you from receiving future confirmations of registration.

Registration closes on March 20th. Please register early to enable us to get all the necessary materials to you in a timely fashion. Additionally, all in-person classes and events have limited seating, and some may reach capacity. Register early for the best availability and to ensure you are not waitlisted for your favorites.

Never hesitate to add your name to a waiting list. Openings often occur and, based on waiting list sizes, changes to larger rooms may be possible.

Meet your instructors
Course descriptions in our catalog leave little space to feature our instructors. Want to learn a bit more about yours? The About section of our website offers a deeper dive into the talent you'll find in our classrooms.
Give high praise to your instructors. They're volunteering their time for you.
Parking passes & maps
Not sure how to get to your class location or how to request an Oxford campus parking pass? The Locations and Parking section of our website lists all locations, on and off campus, many linked to a Google map, as well as instructions for requesting your electronic ILR parking pass (necessary for Oxford campus locations only).
Sponsor thanks
ILR continues to deliver on its mission due to the generous support of our many individual donors and businesses who offer their financial support as sponsors and/or advertisers. We proudly announce that Berkeley Square will once again be sponsoring ILR's spring semester and hosting a tour on Friday, April 21st, to introduce their beautiful community to our members and non-members. See catalog page 8 for complete details.
Since 1997, we have focused on making a positive difference in the lives of the lifelong learners of our community. We trust you'll agree that we are fulfilling our mission in a significant way.

Lights. Camera. Action!

Do you ever watch movies and wish you could make one? Do you have ideas that you think would tell new stories on film? Have you ever wished you could direct or act in a film? Well, look no further! How to Make a Movie is a 6-week ILR course that helps make those dreams a reality.
Throughout this course, you and your classmates will dive into filmmaking dynamics to create an original short film. There is room for work behind the camera as well as in front of it, so there's no need to hesitate if you're camera shy. See page 17 of the catalog for more details and get ready for "take 1" of this fun experience beginning on Wednesday, March 29, 12:30-1:45pm.
Samuel Van Vleet (pictured), Ph.D. student in the Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University, has a background in film and creative writing which includes creating his own video production company geared towards highlighting older adult voices. Samuel writes, directs, and edits his own short films and documentaries and will lead this exciting intergenerational opportunity.
