Personalized Scripture Plaques Installed at all Three Campuses

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”

- Deuteronomy 6:5-9

If you’ve visited any of CAC’s campuses recently you may have noticed the purple rectangular plaques above almost every door. Those plaques – each displaying a Bible verse or passage – are tangible reflections of the personal faith of each of our employees.
At the beginning of the school year the teachers, faculty members and administrators were given the opportunity to submit a verse that was inspiring or challenging to them. Those submissions were then organized and printed so that each classroom and office door would be covered with a meaningful verse handpicked by the owner of that room.
CAC strives to be a place of encouragement, and the administration hopes these plaques serve as a visual reminder of the Christians our faculty, staff and students are called to be!

“I just wanted to thank you all for the scripture signs above our doors. I absolutely love them! I got a little teary eyed when I walked in this morning and saw them. I very much appreciate the reminder of scripture and the Father every time I walk into my room.”

- Christy Sherrill, math teacher

For the first time in CAC’s history, there is a Mustang Bowling team that practices together and competes against other schools in central Arkansas. There are 17 members, the majority of them being seniors. We sat down with three of them, Mary Katherine Childers, Austin Holley and Bret Bishop, to get a glimpse into what it’s like.
Why did you join the bowling team?
Austin: "It seemed like it would be fun and that it would be unique opportunity. I had never been on a bowling team before, so I figured 'Why not?' I also get to hang out with my friends after school, and that’s fun."
What are practices and matches likes?
Bret: "Bowling is kind of calming. Normally sports are frantic and you are always rushing around and dreading going to practices, but bowling practice is always fun."
Mary Katherine: "It can get nerve-wracking sometimes because you want to win, but there also isn’t any pressure if you don’t do well. You are there to have fun; it isn’t all about winning."
What have you learned from being on the bowling team?
Austin: "Sometimes you can throw the bowling ball hard, and have it perfectly right on course and it still doesn’t strike. So, sometimes you can plan things out in life and they still won’t happen the way you thought they would. You have to learn to adjust."
Mary Katherine: "It’s really about teamwork. If someone isn’t doing well we still cheer them on and laugh together. It’s fun to encourage each other."
Bret: "There are multiple approaches, like the 4-step and 5-step. There are also different ways to bowl the ball – I didn’t know that. I just thought you had to put three fingers in and throw it. But there are so many more ways."

Wednesday, January 11, our high school chorus sang the National Anthem at the Crye-Leike annual convention. They represented CAC well and were complimented many times on the performance!
Where are they headed next? To perform at the Memphis Grizzlies game on January 21. Good luck, chorus! We are so proud of you!
"I'm so glad my daughter goes to school at CAC. The only letter she has ever written is when she wrote us a letter a few years ago that she wanted to come to school here. We listened.
Mrs. Posey is the best principal, Tressa Cole Ashberry and Ken Roberts are the best teachers and the loving Christian environment cannot be beat."

In a recent meet, sophomore Preston Rowland swam the 50 meters freestyle in 33 seconds flat – shaving 1.87 off his previous time to make it his personal best and winning the heat against seven other athletes! Rowland said he swims for fun and to relax after a stressful day at school.
Way to go Preston!
Senior Amalie Gunn participated in the Arkansas High School Indoor Invitational Track Meet last Saturday at the University of Arkansas. Competing as an individual, she ran the 60 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter races and was the top Arkansas finisher in all three events.
