NEW! We're looking for members 10 years away from retirement or DROP eligibility
Preparing for retirement is important... and it's never too early to start.
That’s why we are expanding the reach of our popular summer workshop, “Planning for Your Retirement,” to include members who are 10 years away from retiring or DROP eligibility.
So, if you’re in this segment of our membership, don’t miss out on one of the most important workshops we offer. We'll walk you through the retirement process, show you how your benefit is calculated, and give you some retirement “food for thought” as you approach your retirement date.
Check out our summer workshop schedule and register today!
Member feedback
"I wish that I had known more about retirement before I got so close. Teachers put so much time into planning for class, but we must take care of our needs, too. Education about retirement is one of the most important plans of your life."

How financially literate are you?
Financial literacy encompasses a number of skills—managing a household budget, balancing a checkbook, understanding how interest on your credit card is calculated, planning for retirement, and knowing how to make smart investment choices. The list goes on…
Unfortunately, as many studies and news reports tell us, far too many Americans lack an understanding of one or more issues related to financial literacy. According to a recent study by the National Endowment for Financial Education, even those who consider themselves knowledgeable about money matters often show a staggering lack of financial knowledge. This can have a real impact on people's ability to make financially responsible decisions and determine the quality of life they will enjoy.
You can find lots of tips on how to become financially literate on the Internet—even categorized by age group. Here are just a few:
  • MyMoney.gov takes you through five principles to keep in mind as you make day-to-day-decisions and plan your financial goals.
  • Wisebread.com offers advice on increasing your financial knowledge.
  • Smartaboutmoney.org provides financial literacy courses and worksheets for budgeting, credit, and more.
Or check out TRSL’s own Roadmap to Retirement series for tips and retirement information that may be helpful to you as you plan for your future.
