Noorin Nazari MIDP'07

Noorin Nazari was the speaker at the Sanford graduate ceremony on May 12.

When the Taliban came to power in 1996 in Afghanistan, Nazari was unable to continue her schooling – simply because she was a woman. Believing in the power of education, she pivoted to support an underground elementary school for girls.

She and her family were forced to flee to Pakistan and then to Canada, where she completed her bachelor’s degree in Public Affairs and Policy Management from Carleton University in 2004.

“I have had the ability to materialize what I learned in my MIDP professional studies at Duke. As a student, I had an opportunity to take pragmatic courses. More than 12 years later, I have been able to see where the skills were used. My degree benefited me to not only achieve dreams, but to help others,” - Noorin Nazari.

Rhea Ninan MPP'22 is a consultant with Alvarez & Marsal’s (A&M) Public Sector Services practice in Washington, D.C. She was first introduced to A&M Public Sector by Abby Snyder, a fellow Duke MPP alumna.

Policy school also taught her the importance of clear and concise communication, including putting the bottom-line up front and simplifying complex information for busy audiences.

On May 18 we invited Duke public policy alumni, students, and friends to join us for a summer gathering on the Duke in DC rooftop. The event provided an exceptional opportunity to connect and engage with fellow members of the Duke family in the heart of Washington, D.C.

Dean Judith Kelley welcomed our guests and shared updates on all things Sanford. 

The ambiance was infused with a sense of excitement as Duke public policy alumni, hailing from various backgrounds and career stages, reunited to celebrate their shared academic and professional journey. Additionally, the gathering offered a warm welcome to recently graduating students who had just begun their new chapter.
