Genesis 6:7-9
So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.”  But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

This is the account of Noah and his family.
Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.

                My friend Bill Hinson once told of a mother of seven children who lived together in an apartment complex.  On the same day that roofers came with tar to recover the roof, her kids went outside and decided to play “Hide and go seek.”  The youngest of her kids found the best hiding place, an empty tar barrel.  As we can imagine, he won the game.  But the siblings were worried when they saw him covered in tar.  Sheepishly they led him home and opened the door.  Their mother looked at him and said, “It would be easier to make another one than to clean you up.”

                God must feel that way sometimes.  When the world took one disastrous turn after another, finally God had had enough.  Listen to the description:  “Every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time” (6:5).  Deeply troubled, regretting his creation of humankind, God decided to start over.  But how?  In the wide world of people, one stood apart from the rest.  God showed favor to Noah.  In response to grace, Noah was righteous, blameless and walked faithfully with God. 

                What did God really want when he created us?  His actions with Adam and Eve say he wanted someone to walk with him.  Enoch walked faithfully and God brought him to his own house (5:24).  Now Noah continues that tradition.  Later the Chronicler would explain, “The eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him” (2 Chronicles 16:9).  God is still looking for people to walk with him.

                British evangelist Henry Varley reportedly preached in the hearing of young D. L. Moody, “The world has yet to see what God can do with and for and through and in a person who is fully and wholly consecrated to Him.”  Moody decided right then that he would be that person.  What does God want from us today?  He still wants us to walk with him in faithfulness.  If we do, we will distinguish ourselves not only from non-Christians but from many who claim to be followers of Christ.   
Pray with me:         
Father, you have shown us what you require of us.  Help us today to act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with you.  "Just a closer walk with thee, grant it Jesus is our plea.  Daily walking close to thee.  Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.”  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
