Acts 8:4-5
Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.  Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah there.
New International Version (NIV)
A Christian is martyred every five minutes in our world.  Do I have your attention?  What would you do if you were persecuted for your faith in Christ?  The martyrdom of Stephen and Saul’s increasing pressure on the church forced the believers out of Jerusalem.
Philip, another of the seven who were set aside to serve the widows, went to Samaria and lay low to protect himself.  Not exactly!  Wherever these who had been dispersed went, they preached the Good News about Jesus.  God empowered Philip’s message bringing joy to the people.  When the Samaritans believed the message that God is King and salvation is found in Jesus, they were baptized.
Remember the Acts 1:8 outline of God’s plan for his people:  “you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the uttermost parts of the earth.”  The Christians shared the Good News in Jerusalem.  After Philip took the message to Samaria, God sent him down a desert road where he encountered the treasurer of Ethiopia.  Philip explained scripture and baptized the man when he believed.
What if this is still God’s agenda for our lives?  We are all making disciples by our conduct and conversation everywhere we go.  We can teach what we know, but we will only, always produce what we are.  What kinds of disciples are we making?
Pray with me:
Father, help us to make disciples as we go today.  Let us share the Good News that you are King with all whom we encounter today.  Show us one person today whom we can serve in love.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
