Award Won for Gerlinger Lounge Rehabilitation |
Members of the Campus Planning Office joined Hennebery Eddy Architects in Portland this November to accept the DeMuro Award for the Gerlinger Lounge Rehabilitation Project, on behalf of UO.
The DeMuro award, established by Restore Oregon to promote historic preservation and reuse, honors the legacy of Portland developer and preservationist Art DeMuro. It is reserved for projects of superior restoration and outstanding leadership in historic preservation, with the mission of preservation, revitalization, reuse, and community.
The Gerlinger Alumni Lounge Rehabilitation was completed in 2016, and the lounge celebrated its 100-year anniversary last October, 2021. It is recognized as one of the most significant historic interior spaces on campus. Historic spaces associated with women have often been overlooked. Therefore, it is particularly important to focus on preserving significant spaces associated with women’s history, such as the lounge, and the connection to the history of UO’s commitment to women’s education. This is a premier space on campus for special events, and this rehabilitation project will ensure that it continues to serve as such for many years to come.
To learn more about the lounge, a self-guided tour is available on the Campus Planning webpage at: https://cpfm.uoregon.edu/sites/cpfm2.uoregon.edu/files/gerlinger_alumni_lounge_brochure.pdf

The Vivian Olum Child Development Center currently has a few openings for children of UO employees. Enrollment is typically done on an annual basis and there is often a long waitlist. However, the following spaces are open now:
-1 full-time toddler spot (2 to 3 years)
-2 part-time Tuesday/Thursday toddler spots
-3 full-time pre-k spots (4 to 5 years)
The Vivian Olum Child Development Center is located right here on campus and provides high-quality, age-appropriate care and development for children from 8 weeks to 5 years of age in a nurturing environment for children and families. Find out more about the Olum Center online or by contacting Kristy Larson, Enrollment and Operations Coordinator, at kalarson@uoregon.edu or 6-6596.
