Week of November 10, 2014
In the wonderful book The One and Only Ivan, by Katherine Applegate, Ivan the gorilla remarks that he thinks he would excel at homework as he enjoys chewing pencils.  As parents, we know that homework is a childhood rite of passage. As educators, we know that homework serves an important role in practicing and cementing educational concepts.

With the first quarter at a close, now is a wonderful time to reflect on report card input and progress updates with your child and to help them in setting goals for the upcoming quarter.

As it is our goal to help all of our St. Michael's children succeed, our teachers would like to share their ideas on how to make homework more engaging, as well as tips on homework best practices and helpful online resources. We hope you find this link helpful.

Meet Your SMPA Officers
St. Michael’s Parents’ Association (SMPA) plays an active role in the life of the School. The purpose of the Parents’ Association is to promote the welfare of our children and of the School, and to bring families into a closer relationship with the School though culture and community-building programs and events, family education opportunities and more.
We invite you to get to know this school year's SMPA officers and to reach out to them for information. In order of how they appear, they are: Sandy Brooks (Secretary), Caroline Jennings (President), Laura Stewart (Vice-President), Rebecca Lundgren (Treasurer).
SMPA committees and activities offer families many different ways to become involved in our School. From Grandparents’ Day, Teachers’ Appreciation Week, and Magic Dragon Day, to the Annual Auction, Scholastic Book Fair, and Meetings with Michael, we encourage you to become a part of the SMPA.
Wild About Fruit!
Our Lower School “Fruit and Vegetable” challenge is off to a roaring start!  Our students have been very eager to place their stickers on the gym wall after incorporating a fresh fruit or veggie into their snacks or lunches. Our teachers are saying it has transformed what the children are eating in school. The class with the most sticky notes at the end of the month will earn an extra gym period, as well as a fruit party!  This competition will coincide with weekly nutritional lessons during PE class. Click here for more info. Thank you for your support!
Let's Be Friends!
