This World Habitat Day, we want to highlight the importance of the access to safe, stable and affordable shelter not only in our own community, but across our state, nation and globe.

Last week, Hurricane Helene caused mass displacement across the Southeast, adding to the millions of families who already lack access to an affordable place to call home.

In the wake of the storm, we stand together to rebuild and strengthen communities. Habitat for Humanity of Florida is working with Habitat affiliates in affected areas to aid disaster recovery and prepare for future storms. You can support that work here.

We're excited to share that our President & CEO Catherine Steck McManus is featured as one of Orlando Magazine's 50 Most Powerful People of 2024.

“When people are unhoused, or precariously housed, they aren’t able to focus on other things that make them better,” McManus said in her feature. “If we can assure that people are housed affordably, they are able then to get the best out of their lives.”

On Tuesday, longtime Habitat for Humanity supporter President Jimmy Carter celebrated his centennial birthday. Carter first volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in March 1984, and has served as a dedicated supporter of our mission ever since. We are so thankful for his longstanding support. 🏡

Huge shout out to the Mitsubishi Power team for participating on three different build projects in September! It started with the company's national Impact Day where one group of volunteers raised the walls of a new Habitat home, while another group assembled two playhouses that were donated to two local families.

Yet another group of volunteers joined us on the build site a week later, continuing to work on constructing walls for a home that will provide stable, affordable housing for a future Habitat homebuyer. Thank you so much to the whole Mitsubishi Power team for your dedication to helping us Face The Housing Crisis™!

Today we want to introduce you to our newest Habitat homeowner, Tameika. The local teacher closed on the purchase of a brand new, affordable Habitat house for her and her son to call home just over a month ago.

“Home means love to me. It’s a place where you come together with your family and friends. It’s a place to grow," Tameika said.
