James 1:22-24
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.  Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
New International Version (NIV)
What were we thinking?  We put Bibles in the hands of children yesterday, right in front of the church.  First graders marched across the stage and took swords with them back into the crowd.  This could be dangerous!
James knew the awesome power of God’s word.  He urged his readers to do more than listen to the word.  Listening without living the Bible is like looking at ourselves in a mirror, then walking away and forgetting who we are.  What if the only part of the Bible we really believe is the part we live?  How much do we believe.
Jack MacGorman used to say, “The Bible has always been for me a meeting place with God.”  My aunt sent me a Bible when I was a seventh grader.  Reading it changed my life.  Soon I discovered the author was in the room as I read.  God is still using it to shape me.
God’s word is a safe place to hear a dangerous message.  Do you have a Bible, too?  Listen to it and live it.   Meet God in it today.  You will never be the same again.
Pray with me:
Father, thank you for your transforming word.  Help us to read the written words until we meet the living Word, Jesus Christ and begin to follow him.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
Joyfully,
