A team of researchers, including from UC San Diego School of Social Sciences and School of Global Policy and Strategy and other leading institutions studied large language models (LLMs) in multiple languages. Their results suggest that governments can influence the answers LLMs give to political questions through state media which shapes the online media environment. The findings show that prompts given in different languages and in different countries may get different responses to the same questions. The project's website demonstrate that their findings can be replicated.

UC San Diego, represented by Pieter C. Dorrrestein, and collaborators from UC Riverside lead a team of international researchers who have developed a free, web-based platform to make publicly available metabolomics data easily searchable. Metabolomics is the large-scale study of small molecules (like lipids and amino acids) that are the end products of cellular processes. The new molecular search engine, StructureMASST, could help advance medicine by speeding up the discovery of disease biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
