Psalm 19:9-11
The fear of the Lord is pure,
    enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm,
    and all of them are righteous.

They are more precious than gold,
    than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
    than honey from the honeycomb.
By them your servant is warned;
    in keeping them there is great reward.

New International Version (NIV)
               Samuel learned to pray, “Speak Lord, your servant is listening.”  How does God speak to you?  The Bible is a meeting place with God.  He speaks to us through general revelation in all of creation.  The skies declare his glory (19:1).  In specific revelation he speaks to us through his word.  Psalm 19 is a song in the hymn book of the Old Testament.
                For David the law of the Lord was priceless in value, more precious than gold.  God’s word to him was sweeter than honey from the honeycomb.  But for David, the message of God to his people possessed not only poetic beauty but practical help.  On the one hand God’s words warn us.  If we know God’s word and take it to heart, we know when something is wrong.  Let us not be like the man who was found throwing a stick in the air at a crossroads.  When asked why, he said, “I am watching to see which way it points so that I can go that direction.”  An inquirer asked, “But why do you continue to throw it in the air?”  “Because it keeps pointing the way I don’t want to go,” came the response.  God’s word will correct us if we will let it.
                Positively, we discover that keeping God’s words to us offers great reward.  We cannot always discern our own flaws.  But God’s word like a light to a diamond will reveal our weaknesses.  God wants to keep us from sin.  He will make a way out of every temptation.  When you see the way out of sin, take it immediately.  No equivocating.  It is a matter of life and death.
Pray David's prayer with me:
Father, may the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be pleasing in your sight, Lord our Rock and our Redeemer.  Amen!
