1 Chronicles 17:16-17
Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said: “Who am I, Lord God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?  And as if this were not enough in your sight, my God, you have spoken about the future of the house of your servant. You, Lord God, have looked on me as though I were the most exalted of men.
New International Version (NIV)
Don’t you want to do something great for God?  David wanted to.  Once he established his Kingdom he realized that his palace was so much nicer than the tent where God was worshiped.  Why not build a Temple?  His friend Nathan said, “Why not?  Do all that is on your mind.  God is with you.”

Not so fast!  God said, “I don’t actually need David’s help on this.  He will not build a house for me, but I will build a house for him through his descendants.”

When the story of our lives is told it will not finally be about how we helped God out.  My story and yours will be about what God has done for us.  No wonder David gave thanks to the Lord.  So should we!

Pray with me:
Father, who are we that you are mindful of us?  We thank you today for your goodness and grace.  Thank you for all that you have done, all that you are doing and all that you will do.  Synchronize our souls with your loving purpose today, we pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
