Psalm 55:22
Cast your cares on the Lord
    and he will sustain you;
he will never let
    the righteous be shaken.

New International Version (NIV)
               Do you remember Jim Croce?  He was one of the myriad music stars whose lives have been cut short in their prime.  He sang a song about betrayal called “Operator.”  The ballad recounts the loss of his love to a friend.  What do you do when your friend betrays you?
                In David’s hymn he shares his shock that he would be betrayed by a companion.  He was used to enemies and foes mistreating him and running for his life (think King Saul).  In 55:13 he says, “But it is you, my companion, my close friend . . .”   What do we do when those closest to us try to harm us?
                David shows us the way in a simple verse:  Cast your cares upon the Lord and he will sustain you.  Isn’t it interesting that Jesus’ close friend Peter picked up on this verse in his first letter, “Cast your cares upon the Lord because he cares for you.”  Here is the harder question:  what if I have failed my friend like Peter did Jesus?  These words still help.  Cast your cares on the Lord.  Other friends and even family members may fail us.  God never will.  So bundle up all your concerns today and throw them on God.  Our God will never let us down.
Pray with me:
Father, help us to forgive friends who have failed us.  Forgive us for failing you.  Help us to trust you with all of our cares today.  Thank you that you have never failed us yet . . . and you never will.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
