Season's Greetings
Happy Holidays to everyone in D5 and across the City of Huntsville. It is a privilege and honor to serve as your council member and I want to express my heartfelt thanks and warmest wishes to everyone at this special time of the year.
I specifically want to thank everyone who came to a D5 town hall this year or communicated their insights and perspectives to help guide me toward making the best decisions for D5. Your feedback is invaluable and I look forward to hearing from you in 2025.
So from my family to yours, I hope you have a wonderful and safe holiday season.

D5's Newest Park
The weather was cold for the ribbon cutting but the anticipation of warmer days at Apollo Park at MidCity District, not to mention some hot chocolate, kept those who attended the event toasty. Council Member Meredith and City leaders celebrated the completion of the third and final phase of the park, which now spans 20 acres and links The Orion Amphitheater with Topgolf. In addition to greenspace and walking paths, Apollo is the first City park where the lagoon can be enjoyed by people in kayaks, canoes or paddleboards.
The City also partnered with ArtsHuntsville and the National Fitness Campaign to install a fitness court at the park that will spotlight commissioned artwork from Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Thankful at One Table
Council Member Meredith enjoyed meeting and speaking with residents at One Table, an annual celebration in Big Spring Park sponsored by Village of Promise that aims to unite people from all walks of life, give thanks, create unity and celebrate diversity. Crowds filled the seats at the tables for a free Thanksgiving lunch while others stood in line to receive their food, a snapshot that demonstrated the success of the event.

Decking the Districts
Are your exterior holiday lights and decorations in place? Have you submitted your online entry form? Judging will soon begin for Deck the Districts, a Council competition encouraging residents to bring their imaginations and holiday spirits together into a magical display. Judging by Council staff begins on Monday, and winners will be announced at the Dec. 19 Council meeting.

Parading Through Downtown

Council Member Meredith joined his fellow Council members to celebrate the season with one of north Alabama's favorite traditions at the annual Huntsville Christmas Parade.
Despite the cold weather, downtown streets were lined with families and children eager to marvel at the displays with the parade’s theme this year of “Christmas in Toyland.” Catching a glimpse of Santa Claus, of course, was the highlight.

Slaughter Road Improvements
In partnership with the Huntsville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the City is set to improve the intersection of Slaughter Road and Madison Boulevard. The MPO is covering 80% of the $5.375 million project while the City is funding the remaining 20%. The funding will evaluate the need for additional turn lanes and signal improvements at the intersection to minimize traffic backup and cover construction costs.
