Aspirin After Calving: What About Udder Health? 

It is well-known that around calving dairy cows are challenged by different physiological events. One of these main challenges is the systemic inflammatory process, that although normal, when exacerbated can have severe negative effects in a cow's health and performance. Treatment with anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin, after calving has shown to have positive effects in cow production, uterine health, and fertility; but what about udder health?

Badger Dairy Insight: Diving Into Dairy Data Projects 

Victor Cabrera, Professor and Extension Specialist, will discuss the Dairy Brain project-a software being developed to provide the status of their operation and herd health; Dairy Farm Date Ecosystems-a description of the value of data on farms and the Data Money Extension project past experiences. Some examples of applications and demonstrations will be included.

Register for January 27 DBIA Grant Webinar 

The Dairy Business Innovation Alliance (DBIA) is launching a Dairy Business Builder Grant Program on February 1 to help farms diversify through dairy product development, specialization, packaging, and/or marketing strategies; creation of value-added dairy productions; enhance the value of dairy commodity or by by-product through product development or alternate use; and/or creation or expansion of a program for exporting dairy products.
Small- to medium-sized dairy farmers, entrepreneurs, and processors in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin can visit cdr.wisc.edu/dbia now to sign up for a January 27 webinar hosted by DBIA. The webinar, scheduled for 12:30-2:00 pm (CST), will help participants prepare competitive applications for the Dairy Business Builder Grant program.

Farm Management Friday: Risk Management

In the case of risk management, it involves choosing among alternatives that reduce the adverse financial effects of the uncertainties, such as weather, yield, price, government policy, global market, and other factors that can cause wide swings in farm income. Kevin Bernhardt, Extension Farm Management Specialist, and Katie Wantoch, Extension Educator, Dunn County discuss how to define risk and risk management, manage risks, and self-analyze your own tolerance for risk. We will also highlight the process for developing a risk management plan for your farm business. 

Heart of the Farm Coffee Chat

Private Pesticide Applicator In-Person Test Session

Fond du Lac County is offering in-person exam sessions for those who complete training online or self-study. Exams are held at the UWO Fond du Lac Campus on the second Tuesday of the month from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm. Seating is limited. Available dates are February 8, and April 12.
