    - Congratulations to Dr. Borden Lacy for  being elected to Fellowship in the American Academy of Microbiology.  Election to the AAM  signifies excellence, originality, and leadership in the microbiological sciences. Borden, it is well-deserved!
    - Congratulations to Dr. Vivian Weiss for being awarded one of the American Society of Cytopathology Young Investigator Awards. This is the first year for this award. Initially, during the first selection round, 12 applicants were selected for review by the research and current concepts committee.  From these, 3 finalists were selected to present their proposal as a “Sharktank” presentation at the American Society of Cytopathology annual meeting in Phoenix.  Four leaders in the field of cytopathology research were selected to be judges and each of the finalists gave a 3 min pitch followed by 7 minutes of answering questions posed by the judges.  Following voting by the judges and the audience at the national meeting, the awardee was selected.  Prior to the presentations, the finalists were sent to Chicago for a workshop in scientific communication at Second City Center with Heather Barnes.
