Astonished!

PRACTICUM STUDENTS

‘Mentoring is to support and encourage people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximise their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be.' Eric Parsloe

We think this is a good definition of the mentoring that happens between Astonished! and University of Regina practicum students. Everyone benefits from being both teacher and learner. We would like to introduce you to our winter 2022 practicum students. We are grateful for the combination of skills and perspectives they each bring to Astonished! We wish Paige, Micah, Kimberley, and Kamila all the best in their future careers.

Paige Quewezance Beaudry

Hello!  My name is Paige Quewezance Beaudry.  I am a practicum student in the Bachelor of Social Work program.  I am a 4th year student, completing my mini practicum with Astonished!  I’m enjoying my experience at Astonished! as I am learning a lot, and everyone has been so kind and welcoming.  When I am not busy with school work, I can usually be found relaxing at home in Pilot Butte with my husband, Bill, 4-year-old son, 1-year-old daughter, and our two dogs.   I enjoy reading true crime books, exercising, going to movies, visiting with friends, and napping.

Micah Grace Butalid

Hello everyone! My name is Micah Grace Butalid. I am a 4th-year student at the University of Regina, and I am taking Health Studies minor in Psychology. I am currently completing my fieldwork placement with Astonished! this semester. Working with Astonished! has helped me develop my communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. I am truly grateful to be a part of an organization that values inclusion and diversity. I love helping people achieve their goals and letting them know that there is greatness within them, and Astonished! has given me that opportunity. I enjoy learning and doing different activities on our program days. The Core Members inspire me to be a better person everyday.

In my spare time, I like to read self-help books, listen to music, and play my guitar and ukulele.
I also enjoy creating and editing vlogs of travel trips with my family. I like travelling because I get to meet new people, see breathtaking views, try new foods, and experience different cultures. My dream is to visit Japan, Korea, and Iceland in the future!

I am looking forward to new learnings and experiences with Astonished! over the next few months. I know that this opportunity will help me in my career path after I graduate. The bond and friendship with the Core Members are something that I will treasure forever!

Kimberley Nagy

Hello, my name is Kimberley Nagy (pronounced like nudge!). I am a fourth year Kinesiology student, majoring Human Kinetics, and I am completing my Fieldwork with Astonished! I have many interests, passions, and hobbies, so I’m glad that I get to share some of them with our Student Researchers in A!TLC.
In my free time, I like to paint, write, make music, and spend time with my friends and family! I am also a swim coach and in the summers, I am the Head Nature Interpreter at Moose Mountain Provincial Park. I love spending time outside and being active, but I also love being able to spend time relaxing inside, working on my own little projects!
I have always loved working with and getting to know people, so I am really lucky that I get the opportunity to complete my Fieldwork with Astonished. Everyone has been so welcoming so far, and I can’t wait to see what else we can accomplish together!

Kamila Sanborn

Kamila Sanborn is a fourth year Social Work student at the University of Regina and is currently completing her major practicum with Astonished! Kamila completed her mini practicum in the fall at the University of Regina’s inclusive post-secondary initiative, Campus For All. After graduation, Kamila hopes to continue working with individuals with disabilities in her social work career.

Kamila has kept busy at Astonished! working on different projects and activities.
She has helped with policy and support material development, grant application writing, and is currently working on developing a couple program days with a focus on supported decision making and human rights. Kamila will also be helping develop a Truth and Reconciliation series for program days.

Kamila has also teamed up with one of the Astonished! Student Researchers, Cassandra, for Path program days! Together they will be working on meditation, reading Harry Potter, and planning some fun activities including a dance night!

'What's Your Style' Dance Night

Everyone should have the opportunity to let loose and dance in whatever way the music moves them, regardless of musical taste, dance style or ability. On January 20, 2022, Astonished! Core Members and friends got to show off their moves.

The City of Regina, in partnership with Astonished!, hosts this inclusive dance class. Instruction is based on a variety of dance culture, which emphasizes enthusiasm, camaraderie, and smiles! The next dance night will take place on April 28, 2022. Check out our events page for details.

A!TLC

The Astonished! Teaching and Learning Centre returned to in-person sessions at the University of Regina, on February 7, 2022. There is still the option of continuing via Zoom. On Thursdays, Ruth Blaser and Rebekah Lindenbach lead Yoga for Ever Body as part of A!TLC.
On February 10th Ruth delivered a big pile of beautiful rice bags, created by Sharon Pulvermacher, to the dance classroom. The rice bags, weighing 5-7 pounds, are placed on the thighs and feet of the yogis as they sit in their chairs. Human bones, and the human nervous system, love weight. It helps the body to relax and rest.

Your donations contribute to the vitality of this innovative expression of social inclusion. Thank You. We are indeed Better Together!
