EMILIO SCHUBERTH COUTURE EVENING GOWN, ROME, c. 1953
Gabrielle Chanel couture evening cape, c. 1923

GABRIELLE CHANEL COUTURE EVENING CAPE, c. 1923

With this long, slow winter of Covid upon us, we hope you are taking a little extra time for the important things in life-  family, home, and of course, vintage fashion. Our February 10th Auction, "Vintage for Valentines - Couture & Historical Fashion" is coming right up. We certainly hope you can join us online next Wednesday at 11 am EST for another fast paced vintage bonaza. Can't wait for the sale to begin? You're in luck! Absentee bidding has already started on both of our online bidding platforms, Invaluable and LiveAuctioneers. Sign up now to your preferred platform and you will also be approved to bid live as the sale progresses on February 10. We are also accepting phone & absentee bids directly from the active links on our homepage

This sale is sure to be a big one with so many highlights and featured pieces including work by Gallenga, Emilio Schuberth, Yves Saint Laurent for Dior, and a very early and rare Gabrielle Chanel Couture Evening Cape shown above. The cape is a rare surviving example of Chanel's 1922-1924 "Russian Phase". During this period, she was greatly influenced by her liaison with the Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich and commissioned the Kitmir embroidery shop, as well as others, to imbue her work with an exotic quality. The cape has remained with the family of it's original owner since she purchased it from the Chanel's Paris atelier in 1923. It is a true delight to offer this rare and impeccably preserved piece at public sale.
Additionally, we are pleased to offer a large collection of Mid Victorian gowns from the collection of The Musuem of the City of New York. These include day, evening, and presentation gowns, as well as several mantles and capes. The stunning Golden Silk Moire Gown, c. 1867-1868 pictured here is only one of the many 1850-1870s specacular gowns at auction sale on the 10th.
