Country Spotlight:  Indonesia
Our Indonesia Expert is Sophia Blake.  Sophia is a Special Coordinator at EducationUSA and co-founder of 6x6 Women in Action.  Additionally, she is the wife of the Robert Blake, the former U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia (2013-2016).
Indonesia is the world's third most populous democracy, the world's largest archipelagic state, and the world's largest Muslim-majority nation. With over 250 million people, it is the fourth most populous country in the world and home to one-fifth of the world’s Muslims. By some accounts, Indonesia’s economy is already in the world’s top ten; in any case it most certainly makes the top 20.

It has the world’s second highest level of biodiversity (after Brazil) with an immense natural resource base. Even though Indonesia represents just 1% of the Earth’s land area, its forests contain more than 10% of the world’s plant species. 12% of mammal species and 17% of all known bird species. And there is still much to be discovered. By all accounts, Indonesia plays a major role in climate change and biodiversity.

It is also the social media capital of the world. There are more than 13 million Facebook users in Jakarta alone. 29 million users of Twitter. 2.4% of the 10.6 billion tweets worldwide come from Jakarta and there are 1.3 million LinkedIn users from Indonesia.
