Marie's Message

Hi All,

This weekend, Dodge County 4-H is hosting a State 4-H Competitive Shoot. I wanted to give a shout out of thanks to the sDodge County 4-H Shooting Sports leaders and especially Jessie and Eva Lynch for their work organizing this event and the program throughout the year. I visited practice this week and it was fun to see all of the youth and the adults working together and learning so much in the project.

It was great to see Dodge County 4-H members on the Cake Decorating Zoom this week. There were over 110 youth learning how to make frosting and decorate cupcakes on the statewide Take and Learn Zoom which had over 350 youth receiving cake decorating project kits.

As a reminder, make sure you check out the Friday Focus on 4-H for some great learning opportunities that are coming up this month. This week is pretty busy with projects and meetings as we finish out July! We have been including a calendar at the end of the Friday Focus if you are looking for what is happening.

Club Happenings

Herman Hornets (Tyler Zuern) The Odenwald family handed out ice cream to the Rubicon Baseball/Softball teams for June Dairy month. Sadie said mint chip is the favorite. Congratulations to the newly elected officers!

4-H STEM Night!

Interested in learning more about STEM and the benefits of engaging in STEM activities? Sign-up to participate in the first Dodge County 4-H STEM night. Open to youth grades 4-8. Come participate in two separate hands-on STEM activities including:

SPARKS CAMP for Youth in grades 5K-3rd grade

Sparks Camp is a day camp gives youth 5K through 3rd grade the opportunity to engage in new, creative experiences that may SPARK an interest leading to further exploration, a 4-H project or even a future career. Register by July 27 and add some SPARK to your child’s summer!

WHERE: Discher Park, Horicon
WHEN: Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022 9am-2:30pm
COST: $20 per youth. Fee is non-refundable

Camp Counselors Wanted for Dodge County 4-H Sparks Camp!

Older youth in grades 8 and up. Do you have something you’re passionate about? Want to share your passion with younger youth? Sign up to teach a session at Dodge County 4-H Sparks Camp August 2, 2022 at Discher Park in Horicon. Sessions can be anywhere from 30-60 minutes based on the activity. Campers are 5-10 years old so plan activities accordingly.

Dairy Lane Volunteers Needed at WI State Fair

The WI State Fair Dairy Promotion Board and Dodge County Dairy Promotion are looking to fill a few volunteer shifts yet in the Dairy Lane at the WI State Fair. Cloverbud Judges Needed

Are you in seventh grade or higher and interested in being a Cloverbud Judge at the county fair? Then this is for you! Cloverbud judging takes place in the Youth Building on Tuesday, August 17 from 9 am to 7pm or until finished. Judging shifts are 9-11am, 11-1pm, 1-3pm, 3-5pm and 5pm until finished. Let us know what shifts will work best for you.

There will be a Cloverbud Judging Training workshop on Wednesday, August 10 at 6:00pm in the Youth Building on the fairgrounds for all new judges and optional for returning judges. Sign-up is in 4HOnline; you may sign up for 1 or 2 shifts. Questions may be directed to Anne Rinzel at adrinzel@gmail.com.

4-H Silent Auction Baskets

Each 4-H Club is requested to provide ONE themed-basket to the 4-H Silent Auction. Please bring baskets assembled, labeled, and wrapped to the Youth Building Office on Entry Day (August 16). Please direct questions to Heather Rynearson at hrynearson@co.dodge.wi.us.

STOCK THE POND! FISH POND PRIZES NEEDED

Donations of 'FISH" are needed for the 4-H Fish Pond! Please have all prizes submitted to Jan Zander by July 25th. Contact Janet Zander at 920-382-9499 with any questions.

HELP NEEDED!

Youth Building Set-Up: Thursday, August 4 at 6:30 pm. We need strong bodies to help move display cases for the fair. If you can help contact Ellen Bohn at ebohn@co.dodge.wi.us

Youth Building Clean-Up: Saturday, August 6 from 9:00 am to noon. We need people to sweep in the Youth Building and do cleaning in the office. Also to set up benches, tables and chairs.

Fish Pond Prize Wrapping will be in the Youth Building on Wednesday, August 10, at 5:00 pm.

Cake Decorating Co-Superintendent Needed: The Junior Fair is in need of a co-superintendent for the Cake Decorating Class. This responsible volunteer would need to be availableto help at the fair during Tuesday check-in, Wednesday judging, and Sunday release. If interested contact Ellen Bohn at ebohn@co.dodge.wi.us.

Music Department Superintendent Needed: The Junior Fair is in need of a superintendent for the Music Department. This responsible volunteer would need to be available on Friday afternoon of the fair to set up and host the music performance and the music judging. If interested contact Ellen Bohn at ebohn@co.dodge.wi.us.

Judges Helpers Needed. It takes many hands helping to make the fair run smoothly. If you would like to help during the Junior Fair judging, let us know what department you would like to help in. We expecially need helpers for Cake Decorating and Exploring! Contact Ellen Bohn at ebohn@co.dodge.wi.us.

Dodge County Junior Fair Superintendents Meeting

Thursday, July 28 at 7:00 pm in the Youth Building at the fairgrounds. All Jr. Fair superintendents are required to attend. We will be discussing Blue Ribbon Reports, Fairbook changes and consistency between departments. There will also be a representative from the Dodge County Fair to answer questions and from DATCP to discuss requirements for submitting animal information. We would also like to address questions that you have. Please submit questions to Ellen Bohn at ebohn@co.dodge.wi.us.
