Make an impact this summer with Houston Audubon!
Spring migration has come and gone! Now we settle into summer, which is quieter by nature, but never quite still.
We have a handful of opportunities this season that genuinely need your support: the Red-vented Bulbul Survey, an evening bird walk at the Houston Botanic Garden, and an early look at fall education volunteering. None of these happen without people who show up, and that's always been you.
Thanks for being a treasured volunteer, even in the off-season!

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

Red-Vented Bulbul Survey
Saturday, June 6 | 7 - 9 AM

The annual Red-vented Bulbul Survey is coming up on Saturday, June 6, and we need your eyes on the ground!
Native to India and Southeast Asia, these unique birds were first reported in Houston in 1958. They were officially added to the Texas bird list in 2022, but our work isn't done—we are still actively tracking their population trends, range expansion, and how they respond to our region's weather events.
This survey is a collaborative community science project between Houston Audubon and Harris County Precinct 4.

Bird Walk Leaders at Houston Botanic Garden's Birding 101
Saturday, June 6 | 5:30 - 7 PM

Know your birds? We need you!
Houston Audubon is looking for two experienced birders to help lead a small group on an evening bird walk at the Houston Botanic Garden.

Participants will kick things off with a Birding 101 presentation from Houston Audubon's Community Outreach Program Manager, Christine Wehrli — covering the basics of ID, helpful tools, and why Greater Houston is such a remarkable place for birds, then it's outside for a stroll through the Garden's scenic spaces to put that fresh knowledge to work, with you leading the way!

Education Program Volunteers at Edith L. Moore

Help Us Spark a Love of Nature, Starting with the Littlest Learners!
As we look ahead to fall, Houston Audubon is seeking volunteers to support two of our early childhood education programs at Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary: Fledgling Friends, an engaging nature class for curious 3–5 year olds, and Stories & Crafts in the Cabin, a one-hour program of books, songs, movement, and hands-on making for that same age group.
We're looking for volunteers who can commit to attending each week of a program session — consistency matters a lot when you're working with young children. A background in early childhood education is a plus, but a genuine enthusiasm for nature and kids will take you far.
Adult volunteers will be required to complete a background check prior to their first session.
