“If the students are putting up with me to do the amount of work I’m demanding of them at the level I’m demanding, then I should get off my haunches and put this journal together. There was no more excuse for me not to put in that kind of work for them.”
Brian Lagotte, an associate teaching professor and director of undergraduate programs in Global & International Studies, recently launched the Kansas Undergraduate Journal of International Studies (KUJIS), a multidisciplinary journal that publishes undergraduate research on international and global topics.
The open-access journal, published in December 2025, features undergraduate research on international and global topics.

Building Bridges summer academy for local, international teens established |
|
|
| International Short Programs will host Building Bridges this summer, a new 10-day immersive summer camp that will bring together students ages 13-17 from Lawrence, across the U.S., and around the world.
The program, set for July 12-22 on the KU Lawrence campus, brings together area and international teens to experience authentic college life, focusing on cultural exchange, fostering lasting global friendships and intercultural understanding.

Travel grants open for faculty and graduate students |

KU International Affairs is accepting proposals and applications for travel grants that support research and collaboration abroad. The deadline for submitting proposals and applications is Monday, March 9. Grant recipients will be notified by the end of April.
Faculty travel grants will support international travel expenses for interdisciplinary, humanistic research projects, as well as academic collaborations in Asia and Latin America. Graduate student travel grants are also available to support travel to Latin America for internationally focused academic training opportunities that enhance their degree programs as well as preliminary dissertation activities.
Tip: The most compelling proposals will align with Jayhawks Rising’s strategic priorities.

International Student Conversation Series: ISS, in collaboration with Counseling and Psychological Services, launched a new program last fall for International Students to connect with each other and other KU students through shared experiences. Each session will focus on a topic or a resource. The first event of this semester will focus on reflecting on last year and resetting for the new year, and is scheduled for Friday, Feb 20, 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in Watson Library, Room 455. Encourage students to join in.

CREES Spring Festival: The Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (CREES) at the University of Kansas will host its 2025 Spring Festival on Sunday, March 2, from 1 - 4 p.m. at Liberty Hall in Lawrence. This free, family-friendly event celebrates East European and Eurasian culture with live performances including Ukrainian folk dance by Mavka and traditional Turkish music by Jambaroque, along with a Big Happy Photobooth featuring themed props, free bliny to enjoy, and a craft table for all ages to explore traditional regional crafts. Open to the public.
