Summer Camp Info Below - Now offering 4 weeks of summer fun!!

Thanks to all of you who were able to join me for a wonderful conversation last week. I appreciate everyone who turned out for sharing what is on their mind -the positive and concerns - and ideas to make Elysian soar. I will host another roundtable in the spring.

Pedestrian Safety
Hoboken is collecting data and resident input to send to the county traffic engineer. We are hoping that the information collected will help change the design of 14th street and other heavy pedestrian crossing areas.
The email address is: traffic@hobokenpd.org
The Hoboken traffic department is  taking all feedback about the surrounding roads into account. The more people speak up, the more we have an impact!

The Community Meeting will be held in the morning at drop off on 2/28. The time was changed to accommodate most parents.
Please join us in the gym for a schoolwide celebration of Black History month activities including poetry, music and dance. Everyone is invited!

Snow Day Notification
Please note that Elysian follows Hoboken District Schools for weather related closures or a delayed opening.
You will be notified by Elysian by phone as well.

Have you ever wondered what learning is taking place in art class
Below is a description from Nikki about the work she does with her young artists.

In art class, young artists learn how to create thoughtful art by using the Elements of Art and Principles of Design (line, shape & form, color, value, texture, space & perspective, and pattern, rhythm & movement, proportion & scale, balance, unity & variety, contrast & emphasis).  The curriculum is divided into units that each focus around an element or a principle, as well as the art standards and integration with other subjects, while touching on aspects of other cultures and incorporating artist/illustrator studies. Throughout the lessons, students gain excitement and confidence while exploring their creativity through trying new approaches to creating art, participating in group discussions where they can share ideas and analyze art, experimenting with materials, practicing skills and techniques, and expanding on their artistic repertoire.

Art is possibly one of the most difficult subjects because there is no “right answer.”  This is a special class where students practice the tools and theories needed to create solutions and express themselves through art.  Artists play a part in the design of everything you use throughout the day. From your morning coffee cup to your new outfit, from your house to your office building, an artist made all of those things or, at least, made them better.  It is likely that someday our students will be employed in a creative field and the skills they learn in art class will help them succeed. Meeting deadlines, research, planning, communication, and dedication to the task are all non-art skills reinforced in art class and used daily in the workforce.  Art class gives students of all learning types the opportunity to be creative and excited to tackle new challenges.

    Friends of Elysian

PARENTS!  The 2019 Annual Party & Auction is Friday, March 1st!

Our team of dedicated volunteers is working extremely hard to make a memorable event, and we can’t do that without YOU.

As of today, we are at just a little over 25% participation in ticket sales, and we know Elysian can do better than that!

So don't delay:  purchase your tickets today at www.elysian.givesmart.com and join us in support of Elysian Charter School.

And for tomorrow, please be on the lookout for our next “All-In Tuesday” newsletter detailing even more of the exciting auction prizes made available through our generous parent, staff, and local business communities.
While we reach out to our generous local business community for its help in providing a varied selection of services and restaurants for our silent auction, it is often our FAMILIES that provide the most sought after and unique experiences.
We are looking for:
EXPERIENCES: Tickets (concerts/theater/TV tapings/sports etc.), behind-the-scenes tours, exclusive access to special locales or opportunities, NYC restaurant certificates, etc.
EXCURSIONS: A weekend in a vacation home, hotel stays, golf outings, boat tours, etc.
EXPERTISE: Home services (landscaping, design, carpentry, etc.), health & wellness etc.
ITEMS: gift cards, gift baskets, small appliances/electronics (new-in-box please), jewelry, shopping certificates, sports/entertainment memorabilia etc.
Might you have access to similar items or opportunities? If so, please email us at FriendsECSAuction@gmail.com.
Please know that while we hope to be able to include all donations we may not be able to accommodate all items, or may need to group items together.
Thank you very much for your consideration of this request and for your support!
Thanks to all who have already particpated in Elysian Loves Literacy (ELL)! Your support is key to our success, so whether it's the return of a single sticker, ten, or more, it all makes a difference!
Online orders can be processed at https://www.ecsnj.org/support-ecs/ell/ or completed dedication stickers, donor sheet, and a check for the amount collected (cash accepted if needed) can be returned to your child’s teacher.
If you do not need the dedication stickers your child received,  please return the blank stickers so that Friends can reallocate the stickers to fulfill online orders.
The ELL campaign officially ends on February 27; however, we would be especially grateful to receive your completed orders and/or blank stickers before February break begins on February 14.
Thank you for your support!

A note about attendance:  The New Jersey State Law is very specific about school attendance.  By law, children are expected to be in school every day unless they are ill.  There is no room in the law or regulations to excuse any children who have prior plans. We must mark all children absent who are not in attendance.
