Psalm 77:13-14
Your ways, God, are holy.
    What god is as great as our God?
You are the God who performs miracles;
    you display your power among the peoples.

New International Version (NIV)
                “Your God is too small!!”  A book by that title caught my attention years ago.  If we think that God is just a cosmic policeman or that God is a senile benevolence disengaged from the world, we misunderstand his nature.  George Washington Carver asked God to reveal to him the mysteries of the universe.  God did not do that but showed him the truth about the peanut.  Carver said, “That was more my size.”
                Who is our God?  He is holy!  He is not like us, so we must not assume that he loves who we love and hates what we hate.  God made us in his image.  We cannot remake him in ours!  All of our holy history reveals that our God performs miracles.  He shows his great power in natural revelation and also in the supernatural revelation of his coming to the world.
                Sometimes we run into something which makes us say, “Small world.”  My mind immediately reacts, “Big God.”  Our God refuses to be put into our boxes or categorized into insignificance.  When we least expect it, God shows up and reveals his great glory.  Don’t miss him by minimizing him today.  A misunderstanding of Christ’s messiahship will inevitably distort our discipleship.  The children sing, “My God is so big, so strong and so mighty; there’s nothing my God cannot do.”  When we find this God we have found the one true God!
Pray with me:
Father, reveal to us the greatness of your power today.  Cause us to see your holiness and your magnificence so that we may live with appropriate reverence.  In the name of our Great God and Mighty Savior, Jesus, we pray.  Amen.
