Have you ever seen Jesus?
Have you ever seen Jesus?

Mark 16:7
But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’
New International Version (NIV)
Have you ever seen Jesus?  From time to time, someone will find a face of a bearded man in a plate of spaghetti on a billboard, or in a spot of mold on a wall, and identify it as a sign.  This may be more of a sign of credulity than of credible faith.  People still want to see Jesus.  Where will we find him?
The angel had an idea for the disciples.  They were to go to Galilee and look for him there because he would go before them.  This took as much faith as walking after him, the first time Jesus said, “Follow me.”  They went and found it to be true, but some doubted.  Some still do.
I remember when I saw Jesus.  I had just told our people on a Sunday morning to look for Jesus because he had gone before them.  “Look for him at a restaurant or at the grocery store,” I preached.  “He has gone before you and you will find him there.”  After I preached, Melanie, our two sons and I headed up Highway 6 toward Melanie’s dad’s house.  We had just recently lost her mother in a bus accident.
Along the way, our younger son suggested we go to the cemetery.  He was missing his Granny.  I drove in past a long line of cars and we made our way back to the grave.  It was stark.  No grass.  Just a brown mound of dirt shocked me as my eyes went blurry.  I wheeled to avoid eye contact with my family.  I needed to compose myself, I thought.  Just then, across the way on Easter Sunday afternoon, a family began to sing, “When peace like a river attendeth my way . . .”  Looking across the tombstones, I remembered my sermon, “Jesus is going ahead of you.  Wherever you are, look for him there.”  Then it hit me:  even here in the cemetery.  Especially here, our Savior has gone before us.  Since our Savior has preceded us even in death and best of all in resurrection, shouldn’t we see him everywhere we go?
Pray with me:
Father, we thank you today as we anticipate Holy Week just a few weeks from now.  Thank you for an empty tomb and an angelic announcement.  Help us to look for you everywhere we go today.  When we search with our whole hearts, grant that we may find you, really find you.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
