Psalm 118:12-14
They swarmed around me like bees,
    but they were consumed as quickly as burning thorns;
    in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
I was pushed back and about to fall,
    but the Lord helped me.
The Lord is my strength and my defense;
    he has become my salvation.

New International Version (NIV)
              Some of my happiest memories are from Berchtesgaden, Germany.  There my family spent a week in the summertime and a week in the wintertime skiing.  My dad recalls a time when we were on a mountain overlook and a bee nearly chased me over a cliff.  Dad caught me by the arm or my story might have been a very sad one, never told by me.
                The Psalmist likens his troubles to a swarm of bees chasing him toward a precipice.  When all seemed lost his Father caught him by the arm and saved him.  Looking back he recognizes not only what the Lord did but who the Lord was to him.  God’s help reminded him daily that that God was his strength, defense and salvation.
                When I memorized this verse with my brother in Christ, he told me about a mutual friend who in a moment of despair almost fell off of a tall building.  But God spared him.  Think about a time when you almost went over the edge.  Who held on to you?  Who has He become to you?  God will help you today.  He alone is your strength, your defense, and your salvation.
Pray with me:
Father, how we thank you for your gracious goodness.  We can’t and don’t want to imagine where we would be without you.  Be the strength of our lives today.  Defend us against our enemy, the evil one.  Show us your salvation.  Best of all show us our Savior!  Help us to take a long look at Christ before we leave this time of prayer.  Then let us rise in your strength to face the day.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
Joyfully,
