Daily Devotional with Dr. Duane Brooks

Revelation 21:4-5
‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’[a] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

                Who wiped the tears from your eyes?  My mom was the best.  Like most moms, she hated to see her kids hurt.  She could be fierce in defending us.  She was always there when we were hurting to encourage us and help us turn to the Lord for comfort.
                John tells us right after heaven gets down to the earth, the first thing God will do is wipe the tears from our eyes.  This is good news for people like us who hurt and cry.  What will keep us from crying in heaven?  God will take away the things which make us sad.  Death will be done.  We will not mourn because we will see and know our loved ones.  All of our pain will end.  The old order will be gone.  God will make everything new.  We will have new bodies and new minds and new life, forever!
Pray with me:
God of all comfort, compassionate Father, you know our hurts and feel our pain.  With buckets under our hearts, we live in a “veil of tears,” but you tell us it will someday end.  Comfort us today with the comfort of Christ so that we may comfort each other as well.  Fill our hearts with the hope that one day you will make all things new.   Help us to live each day in the light of this hope.  We pray in the Name of the one who wept  for us in the garden of Gethsemane that he might make us new.  Amen.
