Exodus 35:2
For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a day of sabbath rest to the Lord. Whoever does any work on it is to be put to death.
New International Version (NIV)
“What are you going to be when you grow up?”  An excited teacher asked her third graders that question.  One boy answered honestly, “Tired.”  Life can be exhilarating.  Life can also be exhausting.  How are we to manage our lives in ways that help us to thrive over the long haul?  I know I am out of line when the first thing my friends and family say to me is, “I know you are really busy, but . . .”

God’s has not canceled his principle of Sabbath.  Remember God rested on the seventh day and called upon his people to follow suit.  Now Moses takes the same truth and brings it to bear on the children of Israel in the wilderness.  Work for six days, if you choose.  Rest on the seventh.  By the time Jesus arrived certain Jews had turned rest into work by legalistically checking up on others.

What day is your Sabbath?  How do we put this into practice?  Swindoll said, “How busy we are, and as a result, how empty.”  At least one day a week we need to come aside with Jesus and rest.  Sabbath can be a day of holy rest, holy reflection and holy re-creation.  This is different from just going to church for an hour or two a weekend.  Today, make a commitment to take intentional rest time, some time every week.

Pray with me:
Father, we place our calendars before you in absolute surrender.  We belong to you for time and eternity.  Help us to use each moment to glorify you.  Lord we give our lives to you, yours forevermore to be.  You promise rest for our souls.  Help us not to miss it.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
